Job Title: SQL Architect – Azure Cloud Migration Location: Remote Visa: USC/GC Role Overview We are seeking an experienced SQL Architect with deep expertise in Azure cloud migration to lead the modernization and transformation of enterprise database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will architect scalable, secure, and high-performing Azure SQL solutions while driving end-to-end database migration strategies from on-premises or legacy platforms to the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Design • Design and architect Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Synapse Analytics solutions aligned with business requirements and performance goals. • Develop migration roadmaps and cloud adoption strategies for enterprise database workloads. • Provide technical leadership in designing high-availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies using Azure-native services. Cloud Migration Execution • Lead end-to-end database migration initiatives using Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), Azure Data Factory, and other industry-standard tools. • Conduct assessments of current SQL Server environments, identify dependencies, and create migration plans minimizing downtime. • Optimize database performance, cost structure, and governance in the cloud environment. Database Engineering & Optimization • Perform performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and partitioning to enhance system performance. • Design data models, schemas, and stored procedures to support scalable cloud-native applications. • Implement security best practices including encryption, identity management, and role-based access control (RBAC). Cloud Governance & DevOps Integration • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Azure ARM, Bicep, or Terraform for consistent and automated deployments. • Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate CI/CD pipelines for database deployments using Azure DevOps. • Monitor and manage database performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights. Stakeholder Engagement • Collaborate with application architects, business stakeholders, and security teams to align database architecture with organizational strategy. • Lead design workshops, technical reviews, and provide strategic recommendations for modernization and optimization. • Produce architectural documentation, migration runbooks, and best practice guidelines. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. • 7+ years of experience in SQL Server architecture and database engineering. • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud database services. • Proven expertise in Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Virtual Machines, and Azure Storage. • Strong experience in database migration projects from on-premises to Azure Cloud. • Proficiency in T-SQL, query optimization, performance tuning, and indexing strategies. Preferred Skills & Certifications • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Database Administrator Associate, or Data Engineer Associate. • Experience with PowerShell or Python scripting for automation. • Knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). • Familiarity with security frameworks, compliance standards, and data governance policies.
