Cassandra Database Engineer Austin, Texas Hybrid Contract We are seeking a Cassandra Database Engineer for a long-term contract in Austin, TX (hybrid- M/W/Thu). Position Summary Responsible for the operational management, performance, and reliability of critical Cassandra clusters. This hybrid role requires in-office presence on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with no flexibility. You’ll lead efforts in database monitoring, restoration, patching, and problem solving, while collaborating closely with technical and project teams. Key Responsibilities β€’ Performance analysis and operational review of production Cassandra platforms β€’ Manage operations: incident response, alert resolution, and third-party support engagement β€’ Deploy and maintain monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Datadog preferred) β€’ Build and test database recovery procedures β€’ Oversee deployments, installation, patching, change management β€’ Implement database hardening across public cloud, on-prem, and hosted platforms β€’ Provide operations support and expertise to support/project teams β€’ Participate in platform reviews, security evaluations, tuning, and proactively recommend improvements β€’ Act as a go-to Cassandra resource for internal teams Minimum Qualifications β€’ HS diploma required; Bachelor’s in Computer Science preferred β€’ 5+ years current hands-on Cassandra cluster administration β€’ Extensive NOSQL experience, especially Cassandra β€’ Must be maintaining Cassandra clusters currently: specify clusters/nodes/version in use, years of recent experience β€’ Must have operations experience and speak to environment challenges: patching, upgrades, crisis management, performance tuning, backup/recovery, monitoring β€’ Adaptable to context switching and stressful situations β€’ Hybrid role, in-office Mon/Wed/Thurs required β€’ Significant experience in public cloud database deployment/management (AWS/GCP) β€’ Expertise in performance evaluation, high availability, operations support β€’ Skilled in change management and platform upgrades β€’ Strong Linux OS background β€’ Hands-on with GitLab, Terraform, Datadog β€’ Comfortable multitasking and thriving under pressure (outages, crisis, war room scenarios) You Will Receive The Following Benefits β€’ Medical Insurance - Four medical plans to choose from for you and your family β€’ Dental & Orthodontia Benefits β€’ Vision Benefits β€’ Health Savings Account (HSA) β€’ Health and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts β€’ Voluntary Life Insurance, Long-Term & Short-Term Disability Insurance β€’ Hospital Indemnity Insurance β€’ 401(k) including match with pre and post-tax options β€’ Paid Sick Time Leave β€’ Legal and Identity Protection Plans β€’ Pre-tax Commuter Benefit β€’ 529 College Saver Plan Motion Recruitment Partners (MRP) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
