Data Engineer (Healthcare)
Location: hybrid- Tampa Florida (Hybrid)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Data Engineer with strong healthcare experience (billing, claims, HIPAA) who can also support technical recruitment activities for data and analytics roles in our organization. The ideal candidate combines hands-on data engineering skills with the ability to source, screen, and engage technical talent in the local Tampa market.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for healthcare data (claims, billing, EHR, eligibility).
• Ingest, cleanse, transform, and validate large volumes of healthcare datasets from multiple sources (EHR, claims, billing systems, payers, providers).
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability for analytics, reporting, and downstream applications.
• Implement and enforce data security and privacy controls for PHI in accordance with HIPAA and other healthcare compliance standards.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to define data models, schemas, and best practices for healthcare reporting (claims, denials, utilization, revenue cycle).
• Create and optimize SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and data models to support BI, dashboards, and self‑service analytics.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines and jobs in cloud or on‑prem environments (scheduling, performance tuning, error handling).
Technical Recruiting Responsibilities
• Partner with hiring managers to understand requirements for Data Engineers, Data Analysts, BI Developers, and related technical roles.
• Source and engage candidates via LinkedIn, job boards, referrals, and local Tampa networks, with a focus on healthcare data and billing/claims backgrounds.
• Screen candidates for technical fit (SQL, Python, ETL, cloud, healthcare data) and culture fit; coordinate interviews and feedback.
• Maintain candidate pipelines, interview tracking, and recruitment metrics for technical roles.
• Required Qualifications
• 3–5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, preferably in a healthcare, health tech, payer, or provider environment.
• Hands‑on experience with healthcare billing and claims data (e.g., EDI 837/835, payer claims, encounters, revenue cycle).
• Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python for data engineering and automation (ETL/ELT, data quality checks).
• Experience with relational databases and/or data warehouses (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query).
• Experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools or frameworks such as Airflow, dbt, or similar schedulers/orchestrators.
• Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA, PHI handling, and data privacy/security best practices in healthcare data environments.
• 1–2+ years of experience supporting or owning technical recruitment for data/analytics or software roles (either in‑house or agency/RPO).
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and to assess technical candidates.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for data engineering workloads (S3, Data Lake, RDS, Glue, etc.).
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards and formats (HL7, FHIR, ICD, CPT, EHR/EMR systems).
• Background in radiology, hospital billing, or payer claims operations is a plus.
• Prior experience in a hybrid role combining hands‑on engineering work with recruiting, talent acquisition, or stakeholder-facing consulting.
