Tableau Admin/Developer
3 mo+ Contract (with High Likelihood of Extension)

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Tableau Specialist is a key technical resource responsible for administering, optimizing, and supporting the enterprise Tableau environment. This new position addresses growing demand for reliable, scalable, and sophisticated reporting and analytics. The analytical platform already exists and requires a full-time resource to maintain it and ensure ongoing stability. The role focuses on Tableau Server administration within an AWS-hosted, Linux-based, multi-node cluster for development and production. The position ensures Tableau Server reliability, performance, security, and integrity while providing user support across the organization.
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Enterprise Data Office and IT divisions collaborate to integrate new technologies efficiently and cost-effectively. The division manages enterprise-wide data modernization to enable better monitoring, evaluation, and management, as well as timely comparisons and improved data-sharing for smarter, data-driven decisions.
Essential Duties:
Tableau Server Administration & Platform Management -
β’ Administer and maintain Tableau Server in AWS/Linux, including configuration, security, monitoring, and performance optimization.
β’ Manage site content, permissions, SSO authentication, licensing, and user/group administration.
β’ Ensure reliable publishing, extract management, data access, and system availability.
β’ Troubleshoot Tableau Server errors, performance issues, and connectivity problems.
β’ Work with Data Warehousing on platform upgrades, cluster configuration, and environment stability.
β’ Maintain and support Tableau metadata repository and governance structures.
Governance, Documentation, Collaboration & Process Improvement -
β’ Contribute to BI governance related to Tableau Server structure, site configurations, permissions, and content lifecycle.
β’ Document processes, standards, architectural diagrams, and operational procedures.
β’ Participate in change management processes to ensure reliability and risk mitigation.
β’ Collaborate with Data Warehousing on requirements and validation for automated workflows.
β’ Recommend enhancements to platform performance, user experience, and governance practices.
Required Qualifications:
β’ Master's and 1-2 years' experience; OR Bachelorβs and 2-4 years' experience; or a combination of related education and experience.
β’ 5+ years Tableau Server administration in an enterprise environment.
β’ Strong understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
β’ Experience configuring Tableau connectivity to enterprise data sources like Redshift, Oracle, SAS.
β’ Experience supporting Tableau in an AWS-hosted Linux environment, including multi-node cluster architecture.
β’ Experience managing SSO authentication and Tableau licensing models.
β’ Ability to collaborate with Data Warehousing teams on automation/scripting requirements (no coding required).
β’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience in large-scale or public-sector environments.
β’ Familiarity with Tableau metadata repositories and governance frameworks.
β’ Understanding of Python-based automation workflows (conceptual only).
