Role description
Remote | UK-Based | Contract Role About flowio We're flowio (flowio.co.uk), and we're experiencing exciting growth in the AI & automation space. We're building intelligent systems that help businesses work smarter, and we're looking for someone to grow with us. The Opportunity We're looking for an AI & Automation Specialist to support as a contractor role. This isn't your typical corporate gig - you'll be working directly with our founder, building real AI solutions from day one, and shaping how we deliver automation projects to our clients. If you're the type who gets excited about making AI actually useful (not just talking about it), we want to hear from you. We're looking for someone who thrives with technical projects, knows their way (or can learn) around APIs, CRMs, can write custom Javascript/Python functions, and is familiar with low/no-code workflow platforms. An understanding of developing robust, secure and observable workflows is a must for this role. We have a range of fantastic client projects across a variety of businesses including financial services, hospitality, construction, partnerships with digital agencies and B2B service based businesses - each solution we build is bespoke and will give you exposure across a diverse range of business challenges. What You'll Be Doing • Building n8n and low-code workflows from project briefs • Creating AI automations including voice systems, chatbots, and AI agents • Integrating CRMs, databases, and third-party tools via APIs • Working directly with the founder to deliver client projects • Taking ownership of builds from brief to deployment • Problem-solving when automations need creative solutions • Updating build documentation to keep clients up to date • Explaining technical solutions to clients You're a Great Fit If You: • Have hands-on experience with n8n and/or Make/Zapier (even personal projects count) • Are early in your career or have equivalent practical experience • Can work with or learn APIs and aren't scared of documentation • Understand how to connect AI models (OpenAI, Claude, etc.) to real workflows • Can work independently once you have a brief • Can independently problem solve and foresee edge cases in your workflows • Understand how to implement Evals and error logging • Love the idea of building something new rather than maintaining legacy systems • Know your way around basic code e.g. JSON, JavaScript, Python, SQL • Have experience working in Google Cloud, and Vertex AI • Have built your own APIs before • Are comfortable with async communication and remote work • Want to grow your skills in AI automation It’s Best Not To Apply If: • You are not UK based - or do not have the right to work in the UK • You have never built a workflow in a tool like Zapier, n8n, Make • You intend to submit AI generated applications without disclosure, or rely on AI outputs without validating accuracy/security. Nice to Have: • Experience with AI voice systems (Twilio, Vapi, Bland AI, ElevenLabs, etc.) • CRM integrations (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, GoHighLevel) • Basic JavaScript/Python knowledge for custom code nodes • Experience with databases (NocoDB, Supabase, Edge Functions etc.) • Experience with Notion for documentation • Previous contractor or freelance experience The Essentials • Location: Must be UK-based, remote working. Scotland-based is preferred due to potential in-person or client time that may be required. • Commitment: 2-3 days per week (flexible days, project-based) • Contract: Initial 3-month term, rolling monthly contract thereafter • Rate: £1,500-£2,200 per month (or equivalent day rate depending on experience and availability) • Billing: Ltd. or Sole Trader, you'll invoice monthly. • Start: January 2026 • Engagement: Contractor (outside IR35, subject to SDS). • You'll provide your own equipment; deliverables are milestone-based; schedule is largely self-managed; substitution is permissible subject to quality and security requirements. • You'll work on a per project basis to brief with required access • Happy to sign NDA with non-compete Why This Role is Different • Direct access to the founder - no layers of management • Real projects, real impact from day one • Flexibility to work around your schedule • Opportunity to shape our automation practice as we scale • Learn while you earn - exposure to diverse client projects How to Apply Send us: 1. A brief message about why you're interested including your CV 1. Examples of automations you've built (n8n workflows, Make scenarios, anything you can share) 1. Your availability and preferred working pattern Application Process • 15 minute chat with the founder to understand your experience • 45 minute video call to run through a workflow you’ve built • We don’t have a long-drawn out process for hiring - you will be meeting with our Founder to give you an overview of flowio, assess your skills, experience and if you’re a fit for what we’re looking for. Please note that Non-UK based candidates and AI generated applications will be filtered out and rejected automatically. We work in AI everyday, we would like to genuinely see why you’re passionate about building AI solutions that have real impact with us. Must be based in & eligible to work in the UK. This is a remote role in UK only. No agencies.
