Role description
Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States., Canada and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.
We are seeking a contract AI Governance Consultant to support our Customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days remote and 2 days onsite) in Chicago, IL. Willing to consider top candidates not in Chicago, particularly if they are co-located to a branch office.
The AI Risk Governance Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the responsible and compliant use of artificial intelligence across internal and third-party initiatives. This role involves performing structured AI risk assessments, driving cross-functional alignment, and supporting the continuous improvement of governance workflows through automation, templates, and process innovation. The ideal candidate is curious about AI, highly organized, and skilled at bridging technical and non-technical teams to ensure accountability and transparency in AI use.
Responsibilities
• Conduct AI risk assessments for internal and vendor initiatives; document findings, recommend mitigations, and coordinate SME reviews to ensure complete coverage.
• Reduce backlog by following up with business teams to clarify incomplete submissions and drive risk items to closure.
• Facilitate cross-functional alignment across Security, Data Privacy, Legal, Architecture, and product/business partners to unblock issues and support decision-making.
• Implement process enablers such as templates, dashboards, and light automation to enhance efficiency, consistency, and transparency.
• Own intake and triage: validate submissions, assess inherent risk, route to appropriate review paths, and maintain accurate status tracking throughout the workflow.
• Project manage the AI governance lifecycle — track milestones, maintain schedules, report status and risks, and prepare materials for stakeholder reviews.
• Host intake/triage huddles, maintain action logs, and issue concise follow-ups.
• Review submissions for completeness and request missing documentation (e.g., security, privacy, or architectural evidence).
• Draft and maintain risk assessment summaries and mitigation plans, tracking ownership and due dates.
• Prepare stakeholder readouts, meeting materials, and capture key decisions and next steps.
• Maintain a clean and up-to-date risk pipeline with SLA tracking, aging metrics, and escalation of blockers as needed.
Skills And Qualifications
• Demonstrated curiosity about artificial intelligence and a commitment to its responsible and ethical use.
• Hands-on experience conducting risk reviews or governance workflows (in technology, information security, or data governance settings).
• Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, principles, and ethical considerations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Copilot, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint for analysis, communication, and reporting.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills across both business and technical audiences.
Preferred
• Exposure to model and generative AI risk topics, such as data handling, evaluation, and monitoring.
• Experience building trackers or dashboards (Excel, SharePoint lists, or Power BI) for pipeline visualization and cycle-time reporting.
• Prior experience in regulated or risk-sensitive environments (e.g., financial services, healthcare, government).
We offer a competitive salary range for this position. Most candidates who join our team are hired at the median of this range, ensuring fair and equitable compensation based on experience and qualifications.
Contractor benefits are available through our 3rd Party Employer of Record (Available upon completion of waiting period for eligible engagements)
Benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k.
An Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
