Role description
Job OverviewWe’re seeking a skilled Part-Time or Contract AI/ML Engineer to join our team as a key contributor to REM, an AI-powered platform delivering multilingual research translation and citation network analysis. You’ll develop advanced NLP models, graph databases, and cloud infrastructure, working 20–30 hours/week in a remote role. This is an opportunity to contribute to a transformative 18-month project. Responsibilities Design and implement transformer-based NLP models to extract insights from research datasets. Develop citation network algorithms using graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) to map out research ecosystems. Integrate datasets into REM’s PubMed-inspired interface for seamless search, visualization, and profiling. Deploy and maintain AI/ML pipelines on AWS (front-end hosting) and in-house infrastructure. Collaborate with UI/UX specialists to enhance REM’s user experience. Conduct testing and validation of REM outputs against trusted datasets, targeting 80%–95% translation accuracy. Support beta testing (Months 12–15), incorporating feedback to refine algorithms and interfaces. Contribute to technical documentation and project reports. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field (Ph.D. a plus). Experience: 3–7 years in AI/ML engineering, with expertise in NLP and graph-based algorithms. Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks. Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms and graph databases (e.g., Neo4j). Familiarity with data scraping tools (e.g., BeautifulSoup, Scrapy) or translation APIs (e.g., DeepL) preferred. Prior work in R&D, tech startups, or research-focused projects a plus. Skills: Strong ability to develop and deploy transformer-based NLP models for text analysis and translation. Experience integrating and processing large-scale datasets (e.g., academic papers, patents). Knowledge of secure data handling practices for proprietary systems. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
