Role description
Akamai Resident Engineer (Contract) Overview We are seeking an experienced Akamai Resident Engineer for a 6–12 month contract engagement to serve as a trusted technical advisor and hands-on expert supporting a key enterprise customer. This is a fully remote opportunity offering the chance to work directly with customer stakeholders, security teams, application owners, and Akamai resources to optimize, secure, and expand the organization’s Akamai platform investment. You will lead the implementation, configuration, and continuous improvement of Akamai security and delivery solutions, helping the customer maximize platform utilization while ensuring performance, security, and operational excellence. This role requires a combination of deep Akamai expertise, strong consulting skills, and the ability to document and communicate technical solutions effectively. Key Responsibilities Akamai Platform Optimization & Expansion • Serve as the primary technical resource for Akamai platform architecture, configuration, and best practices. • Identify opportunities to expand adoption and utilization of Akamai products and services. Content Protection • Implement, optimize, and support Akamai Content Protector solutions. • Ensure secure content delivery and digital rights protection across web and mobile platforms. Bot & Account Protection • Lead the deployment and expansion of Akamai Bot Manager and Account Protector capabilities across web applications and SDK-based environments. • Analyze bot activity, account takeover risks, and automated attack patterns. Web Application Security • Optimize Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF) configurations and protections. • Implement and tune Rapid Rules to improve protection against emerging threats. • Partner with customer security teams to evaluate and address evolving AI-driven attack vectors, frontier AI threats, and agentic application risks. Configuration Governance & Cleanup • Conduct regular reviews of Akamai configurations and security policies. • Identify misconfigurations, unnecessary complexity, and outdated rules. • Troubleshoot and resolve configuration issues impacting performance, availability, or security. TrafficPeak Implementation & Analytics • Implement and optimize TrafficPeak capabilities. • Develop dashboards, reporting, and analytics to provide visibility into traffic patterns, performance, security events, and platform utilization. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for configurations, changes, architectures, and operational procedures. • Document recommendations, implementation plans, and security improvements. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of experience working with Akamai technologies in engineering, consulting, resident engineer, solutions architect, professional services, or security engineering capacities. • Deep expertise with Akamai security products, including: Akamai WAF, Bot Manager, Account Protector, Content Protector, API Security solutions • Experience implementing and tuning security policies while minimizing false positives. • Experience leveraging Akamai APIs and automation frameworks. • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills. • Ability to work independently in a remote consulting environment while managing multiple stakeholders.
