Location: Jersey City, NJ (Onsite)
Duration: Long Term Contract
Candidate Must be Local to Jersey City NJ, Tampa FL, Chicago IL & Palo Alto CA.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design RESTful, gRPC, and event-driven APIs following industry best practices.
• Create and maintain comprehensive API documentation and usage guides.
• Gather requirements with product, engineering, and architecture teams and translate them into API specifications.
• Define and enforce API design standards, style guides, and governance processes.
• Build API prototypes and mock servers to validate designs and collect feedback early.
• Implement features that enhance developer experience, including versioning, error handling, and discoverability.
• Support the full API lifecycle, handling versioning, deprecation, and backward compatibility.
• Collaborate with QA and development teams to ensure performance, security, and reliability standards are met.
• Stay current with API trends, tools, and technologies and drive continuous improvement in API design practices.
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of applied experience in software engineering with a focus on APIs.
• Strong knowledge of REST, gRPC, and event-driven paradigms.
• Proficiency with specification tools such as OpenAPI/Swagger, RAML, AsyncAPI, and Postman.
• Experience with API gateways, management platforms, and developer portals.
• Familiarity with security best practices including OAuth2, JWT, and API keys.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with AWS, especially EKS.
• Knowledge of microservices and domain-driven architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated API testing.
• Contributions to open-source API tools or standards.
