Role description
Transmission Asset Analyst 12-Month Contract-to-Hire Richmond, VA Hybrid (3 days on-site/2 days remote) Overview Our Fortune 300 utility client is seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Asset Data Analyst to support asset data quality, validation, auditing, and cleanup initiatives for a large enterprise/utility environment. This is an entry-level role focused more on asset data management and quality assurance than traditional engineering. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large amounts of equipment data, validating information across multiple sources, identifying discrepancies, and learning how different equipment types and business processes are structured. Over time, the role will expand into more complex equipment, compliance requirements, and process improvement opportunities. Responsibilities • Review, enter, validate, audit, and clean asset and equipment data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency • Work through asset data backlogs and cleanup projects, potentially focusing on specific equipment types or geographic regions • Validate equipment information across multiple sources, including specialized/test files, PDFs, documentation, and asset records • Review equipment attributes such as nameplate data, serial numbers, amperage, voltage, high-side/low-side information, equipment settings, maintenance schedules, and test results • Identify data discrepancies, inconsistencies, and missing information and work them through the appropriate review and resolution processes • Learn how different equipment types are structured, connected, maintained, and represented within organizational systems and workflows • Develop an understanding of relationships between equipment and their associated processes, including the ability to interpret basic one-line diagrams and equipment relationships • Work with asset-related information in systems such as SAP, Microsoft Excel, Power Apps, and specialized/custom applications • Support data validation and compliance activities as equipment-specific requirements become more complex • Cross-train across multiple equipment types, processes, and data requirements as knowledge and confidence develop • Identify opportunities to improve existing data workflows, reduce inefficiencies, and make processes more effective • Contribute to discussions around automation and process improvement, including opportunities involving Power Apps and other workflow automation tools • Follow established data management and review processes while using analytical judgment to understand why discrepancies or inconsistencies exist Required Qualifications • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify inconsistencies and investigate discrepancies • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality • Ability to work through large volumes of information while maintaining accuracy and consistency • Strong general computer skills and ability to learn new applications and systems quickly • Ability to validate and cross-reference information across multiple data sources and documentation • Curiosity and willingness to learn new equipment, systems, processes, and business requirements • Adaptability and comfort working in an environment where responsibilities and data complexity will increase over time • Ability to follow established processes while also identifying opportunities for process improvement • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills • Real-world work experience is preferred, but candidates earlier in their careers with strong analytical aptitude and the right mindset will be considered Preferred Qualifications • Experience with asset or equipment data, data entry, data validation, data quality, inventory, logistics, field service, or operations • Experience in business/process analysis, technical support, engineering support, or another analytical/technical environment • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise asset management systems • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications • Exposure to Power Apps, workflow automation, or process improvement initiatives • Experience working with equipment documentation, test files, PDFs, or other technical records • Utility or energy industry experience • Engineering, mechanical, electrical, IT, or other technical background Nice to Have • Ability to interpret basic one-line diagrams and understand relationships between equipment • Understanding of how equipment attributes and information connect across systems and business processes • Experience identifying opportunities for automation or workflow improvements • Exposure to compliance-driven data requirements or regulated environments • Experience working with large-scale data cleanup, backlog reduction, or data quality projects • Demonstrated "go-getter" mindset with the ability to dig into data and understand the underlying reason behind an issue rather than simply entering information
