Role description
Job Title : AV Safety Data Engineer (Contract) Long term Contract Location - Foster City, California - Onsite Overview: The Safety Strategy & Operations team ensures the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles through safety planning, risk management, fleet data analysis, and regulatory compliance. The AV Safety Data Engineer will build data infrastructure and analytics to identify safety events, evaluate system behavior, and support safety improvements. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain data miners to detect safety events from fleet and simulation data. • Improve miner accuracy using statistical and machine learning techniques. • Build scalable data pipelines, dashboards, and safety metrics. • Analyze data to identify trends, failure modes, and system anomalies. • Triage autonomous vehicle events for safety, regulatory, or system concerns. • Create and maintain triage guidelines for global teams. • Support regulatory reporting through data analysis and insights. Required Qualifications • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related Engineering field. • 6–8 years of experience with safety-critical systems (AV, automotive, or transportation). • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL. • Experience with large datasets and distributed processing (Spark, Databricks). • Expertise in data engineering, data pipelines, and data wrangling. • Knowledge of statistics, probability, and metric development. • Understanding of vehicle behavior, road safety, and traffic systems. • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications • PhD in Engineering or related field. • Experience with AV safety analysis or event triage. • Knowledge of geospatial data analysis and BI tools (e.g., Looker). • Familiarity with ISO 26262 or functional safety standards.
