Role description
Job Title: AWS DevOps Engineer
Rate: £500 (Inside IR35)
Duration: 6 Months
Location: Remote
Clearance: SC Eligible
Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS/Azure) following government and departmental standards.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, secure, and reliable software delivery.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, Pulumi).
• Ensure platform reliability through monitoring, observability, alerting, and performance tuning.
• Contribute to secure-by-default environments, applying security best practices and collaborating with cyber teams.
• Support containerised applications using Docker and orchestration tools (Kubernetes/EKS/AKS).
• Automate operational processes and reduce manual overhead wherever possible.
• Provide technical expertise during incident response, troubleshooting, and post-incident reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote DevOps culture and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and platform strategy.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure).
• Strong Infrastructure as Code knowledge (Terraform preferred).
• Proven experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.).
• Proficiency with Linux systems engineering and Shell scripting.
• Understanding of containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.).
• Experience implementing robust security practices in cloud and DevOps environments.
• Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
• Experience working in public sector or regulated environments.
• Knowledge of GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and the Technology Code of Practice.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust, IAM, and secrets management.
• Experience with serverless architectures.
• Background working in Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
