Lead Software Engineer β AWS (Digital Payments / ChoicePay Platform)Location: Columbus, Ohio | Contract: W2 - CTH
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our Digital Payments technology organization, supporting our AWS-based disbursement platform, ChoicePay. This role will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, cloud-native solutions that power high-volume payment processing and disbursement capabilities. ChoicePay enables administrators to manage disbursements while allowing payees to receive funds through their preferred methods (PayPal, Venmo, ACH, Check, Gift Card, Debit Card, Zelle, etc.).
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Delivery
Serve as a Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the Payment Disbursement technology stack
Provide hands-on technical leadership for an AWS development team
Act as a Tech Lead on project teams:
Collaborate with business analysts on requirements
Provide development estimates
Author technical design documents
Recommend modern cloud-based solutions aligned with enterprise standards
Cloud Architecture & Development
Design and build high-performance, event-driven systems using:
AWS Lambda for core execution engine
Amazon SQS & SNS to support highly scalable and event-based applications
Develop scalable, resilient systems supporting:
Payment origination, processing, disbursement, and settlement
Monitor and troubleshoot applications using:
AWS CloudWatch
AWS CloudTrail
Data & Infrastructure
Build and manage containers:
Compute: EC2
Databases: DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL
Build adhoc reporting using Amazon QuickSight
Security & Compliance
Implement and manage security controls using:
AWS GuardDuty
AWS WAF
AWS Security Hub
Ensure proactive threat detection, monitoring, and compliance automation
Frontend & API Development
Develop user-facing applications using:
JavaScript / Node.js
AWS CloudFront (content delivery)
Amazon S3 (UI hosting)
Build and manage APIs using:
API Gateway
AppSync
AWS Secrets Manager
Integrate logging and monitoring (e.g., Splunk)
Identity, Networking & Integration
Implement authentication and user management with AWS Cognito
Configure networking using VPC
Manage configurations using AWS Config
Build integrations across internal systems via APIs and messaging
Communication & Platform Services
Implement:
Notifications and emails via Amazon SES
Secure file transfers using AWS Transfer Family
Operations & Governance
Expert level leading change and incident management using ServiceNow
Provide L3 production support (24/7 rotation across team)
Ensure delivery across Agile lifecycle:
Sprint planning
Backlog grooming
Detailed design

Support hiring and staffing decisions:
Candidate selection, interviewing, onboarding, referrals, etc

Work closely with enterprise IT and business stakeholders
Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
Develop deep understanding of business processes, workflows, and controls
Required Skills:
9+ years of hands-on full stack cloud-native application development experience
3+ years of hands-on development using technologies that provide JavaScript driven user experiences, RESTful web services, incoming/outgoing file processing, and asynchronous event-based integrations
Bachelorβs Degree
