π Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support a mission-critical Department of Justice (DOJ) environment. This role focuses on database administration, cloud optimization, analytics, and data engineering within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, Databricks, Power BI, and Apache Tomcat, along with a passion for improving performance, reliability, and scalability of enterprise data platforms. This is a fully onsite role in Washington, DC.
π οΈ Key Responsibilities
β’ Administer and manage Azure SQL Databases, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake ensuring security, availability, and performance.
β’ Optimize cloud-based databases for cost efficiency, scalability, and performance.
β’ Automate database provisioning and maintenance using Azure CLI, PowerShell, and AZ Copy.
β’ Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance and availability issues.
β’ Support and execute database migrations from on-prem SQL Server to Azure SQL Database.
β’ Design and implement data pipelines using Azure Databricks for scalable ETL processing.
β’ Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations for business insights.
β’ Utilize R Studio for data modeling, statistical analysis, and large-scale data processing.
β’ Support administration and troubleshooting of Apache Tomcat servers hosting applications and data services.
β’ Diagnose application, security, and database integration issues across platforms.
β’ Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
β’ Collaborate closely with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
π― Required Qualifications
β’ 3β5 years of experience in Database Administration, Data Engineering, or related roles
β’ Strong expertise in SQL Server DBA activities (backup, recovery, tuning, security)
β’ Hands-on experience with:
β’ Azure SQL Database
β’ Azure Blob Storage
β’ Azure Data Lake
β’ Proven experience with Azure Databricks for ETL and analytics
β’ Proficiency in R Studio for data analysis and statistical modeling
β’ Experience building and managing Power BI dashboards and reports
β’ Working knowledge of Apache Tomcat
β’ Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills
β’ Excellent communication and documentation abilities
β’ Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
β Nice to Have (Preferred Skills)
