Azure DevOps Consultant – Contract (Hybrid, UK) Location: Birmingham Duration: 6 months (extension likely) Sector: Higher Education / Public Sector Clearance: SC Clearance preferred (or ability to obtain) About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Azure DevOps Consultant to support a major cloud transformation programme within the education sector. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in building a secure, scalable Azure foundation that will enable application and platform teams to innovate safely within Azure. You’ll collaborate closely with cloud architects, security specialists, and infrastructure teams to design, deploy, and configure Azure Landing Zones using Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC), implementing best practices in governance, security, and DevSecOps. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement Azure Landing Zones aligned with enterprise standards. • Configure and secure core platform services, including networking, identity, management, and monitoring. • Develop reusable Terraform modules for scalable, repeatable deployments. • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines within Azure DevOps for infrastructure automation. • Integrate security and compliance checks into DevOps workflows. • Collaborate with architecture, platform, and security teams to ensure alignment with governance and compliance frameworks (NCSC, CIS Benchmarks, ISO27001). • Produce clear documentation and support knowledge transfer across teams. Skills & Experience • Proven hands-on experience with Terraform (advanced modules, state management, remote backends). • Strong background in Azure Landing Zone design and deployment. • Deep understanding of Azure governance and security (Management Groups, Policies, Blueprints). • Proficient with Azure AD, RBAC, and networking (VNets, NSGs, Firewalls, VPN/ExpressRoute). • Skilled in Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines, Artifacts) and Git-based source control. • Familiar with monitoring and security integrations (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Sentinel). • Strong scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash). Desirable Certifications • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator (AZ-104), Solutions Architect (AZ-305), or DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate • Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500) and/or ITIL Foundation What We’re Looking For We value consultants who are: • Strong communicators, able to bridge technical and business needs. • Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments. • Proactive, delivery-focused, and collaborative across multi-disciplinary teams. • Experienced in regulated or secure sectors such as education, public sector, or defence.
