You will join an established software function of around 30 people, taking ownership of the Azure platform and delivery toolchain that multiple products depend on. The focus is enabling fast, reliable delivery by automating the path from commit to production, embedding observability and security, and providing self service infrastructure across containers, serverless, AI and data services. You will work across engineering, product and quality functions to keep delivery smooth and dependable. Given the fixed term nature, this suits someone who can come in, get up to speed quickly and add value from early on, whether you are between contracts, actively contracting, or open to a defined project with a clear scope. Why This Role Stands Out • Almost fully remote setup with only one day a month required in London • Modern Azure platform with AKS, Terraform, Bicep and a proper CI CD toolchain, no legacy drag • Real platform ownership across multiple products rather than a narrow slice • Genuine focus on developer experience, building golden paths and self service rather than firefighting • Works across containers, serverless, AI, analytics and data services, plenty of technical breadth • Sits within the CTO Office of a global business, with clear scope and visible impact over the contract • Defined 6 month engagement, ideal for a strong DevOps engineer who wants a clean, focused piece of work Key Responsibilities • Own CI CD pipelines across GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps, covering build, test, security scans, release strategies such as blue green and canary, and rollback • Build and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform and Bicep across AKS, ACR, App Service, Functions, networking, APIM, Front Door, Key Vault, data and messaging • Embed observability across logs, metrics and traces, define SLOs and error budgets, and keep alerting actionable with maintained runbooks and dashboards • Champion security by default, including IAM and RBAC, secrets management, policy as code, dependency and image scanning, and certificate hygiene • Maintain environment parity across DEV, TEST, STAGING and PROD, along with config, feature flags and safe database migration practices • Drive performance and cost efficiency through capacity planning, performance testing, caching and FinOps tagging and monitoring • Partner with Scrum Masters, BAs and QA on flow, release readiness and quality gates, supporting incidents and post mortems • Create golden paths through templates, scripts and documentation that improve developer experience and self service Ideal Experience • Strong Azure experience across AKS, ACR, App Service, Functions, networking including VNets, peering and NSGs, APIM, Front Door, Storage, Key Vault and Monitor with Log Analytics, AWS exposure useful • Infrastructure as code with Terraform and Bicep, including modules, plans and policy checks driven through pipelines • Solid CI CD experience with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps, artefact registries, versioning strategies and integrating unit, integration and E2E testing alongside SAST and DAST • Observability with Azure Monitor, App Insights and OpenTelemetry, designing actionable alerts and SLOs • Security grounded in least privilege, RBAC, OIDC to cloud, Key Vault, vulnerability management and policy as code such as Azure Policy or OPA • Strong networking fundamentals across DNS, TLS, HTTP, private endpoints, load balancers and WAF • Experience with data and messaging including Azure SQL, Cosmos, Postgres, Redis, Service Bus and Event Hubs, with Kafka a nice to have • Scripting and automation across Bash, PowerShell and Python, comfortable with YAML and JSON, with solid Linux fundamentals • Container application experience beneficial, including Docker, HPA, PDBs and rollout strategies • Collaborative approach with clear documentation and agile delivery, on call and incident experience, and relevant certifications such as AZ 104, AZ 400 or CKA a bonus
