Backstage Developer || USA/Remote

Job Title :: Backstage Developer Location :: USA/Remote Job Type :: Contract We are seeking a skilled Backstage Developer to design, develop, and maintain developer portal solutions using Backstage, the open-source Internal Developer Platform (IDP). The ideal candidate will have experience in building custom plugins, integrating enterprise systems, and enhancing developer experience through automation, self-service capabilities, and platform engineering best practices. The role involves collaborating with DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud, Security, and Development teams to create a scalable and user-friendly developer ecosystem. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and customize Backstage-based Internal Developer Portals. • Build and maintain custom Backstage plugins, components, and integrations. • Integrate Backstage with enterprise tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Jira, ServiceNow, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms. • Develop software templates and scaffolding solutions to automate application onboarding and deployment processes. • Implement service catalog management and software component discovery. • Create APIs and backend services to support Backstage integrations. • Collaborate with platform engineering teams to improve developer productivity and self-service capabilities. • Configure authentication and authorization mechanisms using SSO, OAuth, LDAP, or SAML. • Ensure security, scalability, and performance of the Backstage platform. • Automate infrastructure and deployment workflows using CI/CD pipelines. • Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues and integration challenges. • Create technical documentation, standards, and best practices for platform adoption. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Required Skills Technical Skills • Strong experience with Backstage Developer Portal. • Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript. • Experience with Node.js, React.js, and modern frontend development. • Strong understanding of REST APIs and microservices architecture. • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized environments. • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps. • Experience with source control systems such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. • Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation. • Knowledge of authentication protocols including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, and LDAP. Preferred Skills • Experience with Platform Engineering and Internal Developer Platforms (IDP). • Familiarity with Service Catalog implementation and software lifecycle management. • Experience integrating observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk. • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and security automation. • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. • 4–8+ years of software development experience. • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Backstage platform development and customization. • Experience building enterprise-scale developer experience and platform solutions.
