Role description
Job Title: Data Center Building Engineer
Overview
The Data Center Building Engineer plays a key role in maintaining 100% uptime of all critical facility systems. This position ensures operational excellence and reliability across electrical, mechanical, and life-safety infrastructure within a mission-critical data center environment.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Perform preventive maintenance, monitoring, and continuous operation of all critical building systems, including:
β’ Mechanical: HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, plumbing, and controls
β’ Electrical: UPS, ATS/STS, PDU, generators, switchgear, transformers, lighting, and power distribution
β’ Fire/Life Safety: Fire detection and suppression systems
β’ Operate, inspect, and adjust refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning systems; boilers; pumps; valves; piping; and related equipment to ensure efficient performance.
β’ Record system readings, identify abnormalities, and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal conditions.
β’ Troubleshoot and resolve system issues by analyzing operations and determining root causes.
β’ Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
β’ Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
β’ Gain a comprehensive understanding of the data centerβs infrastructure to effectively respond to incidents and minimize risk to critical systems.
β’ Manage work orders, including CMMS documentation, vendor coordination, and customer ticketing.
β’ Follow established procedures for emergency escalation and response.
β’ Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations and reliability goals.
Qualifications
β’ Experience maintaining mission-critical environments (data centers, hospitals, labs, or similar).
β’ Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
β’ Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and prioritize under pressure.
β’ Familiarity with CMMS tools and vendor management.
β’ Commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.
