Role description
The Technical Business Analyst (TBA) will support a strategic data integration initiative focused on ingesting external patient data and transforming it into the organization’s standardized FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) data model. This role bridges business, clinical, and technical teams to ensure accurate, scalable, and high-quality data exchange across systems.
The ideal candidate brings a strong healthcare background with expertise in interoperability standards (HL7, CDA (Clinical Document Architecture), FHIR), data warehousing, and cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform. This individual will play a key role in defining requirements, mapping data, and supporting implementation of pipelines that normalize and flatten complex healthcare data into a unified structure.
Requirements & Analysis
• Collaborate with stakeholders (clinical, operational, data engineering, and IT) to gather and document business and technical requirements.
• Translate healthcare workflows and data needs into clear functional and technical specifications.
• Analyze source system data (EHRs, HIEs, third-party feeds) and define ingestion and transformation requirements.
Healthcare Data Interoperability
• Work with interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), and CDA (Clinical Document Architecture).
• Develop and document data mapping from source formats (HL7 v2 messages, CDA documents, APIs) into FHIR resources.
• Support data normalization and “flattening” strategies to align with enterprise FHIR models.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with healthcare standards and regulations.
Data Warehousing & Integration
• Partner with data engineers to design and validate ETL/ELT pipelines for ingesting and transforming healthcare data.
• Support development of data models for analytics and operational use cases.
• Validate data transformations and ensure alignment with business rules and clinical intent.
Cloud & Technical Environment (GCP)
• Work within a Google Cloud Platform environment, supporting data pipelines and storage solutions (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow).
• Assist in defining architecture and data flow for scalable ingestion and processing of healthcare data.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot data issues and optimize performance.
Testing, Validation & Documentation
• Develop test cases and support system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).
• Validate transformed data against source systems and business expectations.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation including data dictionaries, mapping specifications, and workflows.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field required
• Master’s degree preferred
Experience
• 4–7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Business Analyst in healthcare or health IT
• Hands-on experience with healthcare interoperability standards:
• HL7 (v2.x)
• FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources)
• CDA (Clinical Document Architecture)
• Experience with healthcare data integration, ingestion pipelines, and transformation
• Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with data warehousing concepts and tools
Skills:
• Strong understanding of healthcare data structures and clinical workflows
• Expertise in data mapping, transformation logic, and interoperability standards
• Familiarity with FHIR resources (Patient, Encounter, Observation, etc.) and APIs
• Knowledge of SQL and data analysis techniques
• Experience working with ETL/ELT tools and data pipelines
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
