Business Analyst – Accounting Systems

Position Title: Business Analyst – Accounting Systems Location: Remote Position Overview We are seeking a highly analytical and detail‑oriented Business Analyst specializing in Accounting Systems to support the design, development, and enhancement of our financial technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for translating accounting and finance requirements into system solutions, optimizing financial workflows, supporting system implementations, and driving process automation for enhanced accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles combined with hands‑on experience in financial systems analysis, system configuration, and cross‑functional project delivery. Key Responsibilities 1. Accounting Systems Development & Enhancement · Partner with Finance, Accounting, and Technology teams to design, build, and enhance accounting systems supporting financial operations. • Gather, document, and validate business and functional requirements for new system features, integrations, and reporting capabilities. • Assist in system configuration, chart of accounts design, rules-based accounting, and workflow setup. • Support the development of AP/AR automation, general ledger solutions, financial close processes, and reporting platforms. 1. Project Management & Implementation · Lead or support end‑to‑end system implementation lifecycle, including design, testing, training, deployment, and post‑go‑live support. • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of system enhancements. • Develop project plans, status updates, testing scripts, and UAT documentation. 1. Financial Process Analysis & Optimization · Analyze existing accounting workflows to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities. • Recommend and implement process enhancements to improve accuracy, auditability, and efficiency. • Support the creation of internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory, audit, and operational requirements. 1. Data, Reporting & Integration · Work with IT teams to design and validate systems integrations between the accounting system and upstream/downstream applications. • Assist in building financial dashboards, reconciliations, and reports for Accounting and Executive leadership. • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and alignment across multiple financial systems. 1. Support, Troubleshooting & Documentation · Provide ongoing support to Finance and Accounting teams for system issues, enhancements, and training. • Troubleshoot accounting data discrepancies and system errors, coordinating with technical teams as needed. • Maintain system documentation, process flows, training materials, and knowledge bases. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field. • 5–7 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Financial Systems Analyst, or Accounting Analyst. • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting processes, and financial reporting. • Experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, Sage Intacct, or similar). • Proficiency in requirements gathering, process mapping, and writing functional specifications. • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools (Excel, Power BI, SQL a plus). Preferred Qualifications · Experience implementing or upgrading accounting systems. • Knowledge of APIs or middleware for financial system integrations. • Familiarity with automation tools (RPA, workflow engines). • Professional certification (CPA, CA, CMA, PMI-PBA, CBAP) preferred but not required.
