Business Analyst

Job Title: Financial Business Analyst (BA 3) Location: State of Virginia (Onsite/Hybrid) Experience: 9+ Years Domain: Finance (Mandatory) Job Summary We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Financial Business Analyst to support the design, development, and optimization of custom financial systems. This role bridges finance and technology, ensuring business requirements are effectively translated into functional solutions that enhance financial reporting, planning, and operations. Key Responsibilities • Partner with finance stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements. • Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, and process flows. • Collaborate with development, architecture, and QA teams across the SDLC. • Analyze financial processes and identify automation and efficiency improvements. • Support implementation/configuration of financial modules (GL, AP/AR, budgeting, forecasting, grants). • Perform data analysis, validation, and reconciliation to ensure data accuracy. • Lead UAT activities including test planning, execution, and documentation. • Develop user documentation and provide training/support. • Assist in integrations across ERP, CRM, and data platforms. • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and data security standards. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, IT, or related field • 9+ years of Business Analyst experience (financial systems focus) • Strong expertise in: • General Ledger (GL), financial reporting, budgeting, grants • Custom/configurable financial systems • Hands-on experience with: • Excel, SQL, Visio • SDLC & Agile (Scrum/Sprint) • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills • Ability to convert complex financial rules into technical requirements Preferred Qualifications • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Financials) • Knowledge of financial data modeling & database structures • Understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance • Exposure to APIs, ETL, and system integrations • Public sector/government experience (nice to have) • Certification (Mandatory): CBAP / CFA / CPA / PMI-PBA Key Competencies • Financial & business acumen • Systems thinking & automation mindset • Stakeholder management • Attention to detail • Cross-functional collaboration
