Role description
Role: Business Analyst (Duck Creek)
Location - Piscataway, NJ (Onsite)
Duration: 06 - 12 months contract
Core Responsibilities
• Possess strong domain expertise in Commercial Auto and/or Management Liability insurance products, including coverages, endorsements, exclusions, rating factors, underwriting rules, and regulatory requirements within the Casualty LOB.
• Leverage prior experience across policy lifecycle functions such as New Business, Renewals, Endorsements, Cancellations, Reinstatements, and Rewrites within Duck Creek Policy, Rating, and Forms modules.
Requirements Analysis & Documentation
• Review and understand existing business rules documented in source requirement documents, legacy systems, and the Duck Creek configuration.
• Analyze current-state Duck Creek implementations, including product models, rating algorithms, underwriting rules, forms, and integrations.
• Document business rules clearly and concisely, mapping them to Duck Creek constructs such as:
◦ Policies, Coverages, Options, and Modifiers
◦ Underwriting Rules and Authority Profiles
◦ Rating Worksheets and Rate Tables
◦ Eligibility and Validation rules
• Identify gaps, ambiguities, or inefficiencies in current rules and processes and propose optimized solutions aligned with business goals.
Functional & Technical Requirement Development
• Transform business requirements into detailed functional specifications for:
◦ Duck Creek configuration teams (Policy, Rating, Billing, Forms)
◦ .NET application development teams for custom extensions, integrations, and APIs.
• Develop and maintain:
◦ Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs)
◦ Business Requirement Documents (BRDs)
◦ User Stories and Acceptance Criteria (Agile/Scrum environments)
• Map business rules to Duck Creek capabilities, identifying when out-of-the-box configuration vs. custom development is required.
Change Management & Production Support
• Support deployment activities by validating production readiness and assisting with release documentation.
• Provide post-production support by analyzing issues, reviewing rule behavior, and working with development teams on resolution.
• Assist in product upgrades, enhancements, and regulatory changes impacting Commercial Auto or Management Liability products.
Communication & Documentation Skills
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with business users, technical teams, and leadership.
• Create clear, structured documentation that can be easily understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Effectively communicate complex insurance and system concepts in a simplified and actionable manner.
Desired Skills & Experience
• Strong hands-on or functional knowledge of Duck Creek Suite (Policy, Rating, Billing, Forms preferred).
• Experience with Commercial Auto, Management Liability, or broader Casualty insurance products.
• Understanding of integrations between Duck Creek and external systems (e.g., rating engines, document management systems, third-party data providers).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC processes.
