Role description
Business Analyst – Collateral Management (Broker Dealer Back Office) Hybrid – New York, NY (3 to 4 days onsite) Contract Role – Strong potential to extend or convert to full-time Overview A leading financial institution is seeking a highly experienced Business Analyst to support a major initiative within its Broker Dealer Back Office technology group. This role focuses on Transaction Lifecycle Management (TLM) with an emphasis on collateral management, counterparty risk mitigation, and operational efficiency across multiple asset classes. The ideal candidate will bring deep functional knowledge of collateral processes, strong technical analysis skills, and experience working across Operations, Risk, and Technology teams. Familiarity with SmartStream TLM or similar platforms is a significant plus. This is a hybrid position based in New York with interviews beginning immediately. Key Responsibilities 1. Collateral Management & Risk Mitigation β€’ Support counterparty risk mitigation by ensuring collateral is validated, tracked, and managed accurately. β€’ Analyze and document collateral workflows including agreement setup, posting, settlement, and recall processes. β€’ Partner with Operations and Risk teams to confirm collateral sufficiency and proper risk-management controls. 1. Collateral Valuation & Monitoring β€’ Support mark-to-market valuation workflows. β€’ Document and refine margin call processes, escalation paths, and threshold calculations. β€’ Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements for automated monitoring, alerts, and exception reporting. 1. Margin Calls & Collateral Optimization β€’ Analyze requirements for margin call calculations, dispute workflows, and collateral substitutions. β€’ Support collateral optimization strategies across cash and securities to improve funding efficiency. β€’ Document end-to-end processes for substitution and recall between counterparties. 1. Tri-Party Agreements & Operational Efficiency β€’ Provide analysis for tri-party collateral arrangements involving custodians and third-party agents. β€’ Identify automation opportunities, system enhancements, and efficiency gains. β€’ Support configuration or implementation of TLM components, ensuring seamless lifecycle processing through settlement. 1. Technical Support & System Analysis β€’ Assist Operations teams with system issues such as trade capture inconsistencies, collateral shortfalls, and margin-call discrepancies. β€’ Work closely with Technology groups to troubleshoot issues, design fixes, and implement system enhancements. β€’ Support integration efforts with upstream and downstream systems. 1. Business Analysis & Documentation β€’ Write high-quality business requirements for collateral management system changes and enhancements. β€’ Produce and maintain detailed workflow diagrams, procedural documentation, and configuration notes. β€’ Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical specifications. Required Skills & Experience β€’ Strong understanding of TLM concepts and end-to-end collateral management processes. β€’ Knowledge of counterparty risk, margin calculations, collateral optimization, and self-funding strategies. β€’ Experience with collateral workflows across: β€’ Fixed income β€’ Equity β€’ Repo β€’ Tri-party agreements β€’ Securities lending β€’ Derivatives β€’ Familiarity with tri-party structures and custodial roles. β€’ Strong documentation skills and the ability to break down complex operational workflows. β€’ Hands-on experience with collateral or trade lifecycle systems such as: β€’ SmartStream TLM β€’ Broadridge Collateral Management β€’ Calypso β€’ Murex β€’ Broadridge BPSA / IMPACT β€’ Understanding of market data & reference data (e.g., WSO, ClearPar). β€’ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. β€’ Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment. β€’ Familiarity with regulatory frameworks including Dodd-Frank, EMIR, Basel III, and UMR. β€’ Experience supporting transformation, greenfield, or system-implementation projects. β€’ Working SQL knowledge for data extraction and analysis. β€’ Strong understanding of securities operations, settlement, custody, and reconciliation. Education & Experience Requirements β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a related discipline. β€’ 5+ years of experience in collateral management, operations, or business analysis within a broker-dealer or investment banking environment.
