Job overview:
Our consultancy client is looking for an experienced Business Analyst who has experience in Kraken software, ideally in the UK water industry or the utilities sector (electricity/gas/telco).
1. Discovery, Advisory & Requirements Definition:
• Lead structured discovery sessions with Finance, PMO, Data, and wider stakeholders preferably at client site or remotely if not practical
• Advise Finance on best-practice reporting structure, data definitions, and alignment with Kraken’s data model.
• Prioritise reporting requirements based on business impact, dependencies, and delivery feasibility.
• Facilitate workshops to define reporting logic, reconciliations and control needs.
• Translate Finance needs into clear end-to-end functional and technical requirements for developers.
1. Design & Architecture Documentation:
• Support and coordinate all design and architecture activities by validating business logic and facilitating sign-off of design Artefacts
• Support design formal review and sign-off (architecture, finance, data).
1. Delivery Planning & Project Governance (in-conjunction with end client Project Manager)
• Provide inputs into the delivery plan and help sequence reporting work with the end-client PM.
• Support backlog refinement and sprint planning
• Participate in stand-ups and project ceremonies to ensure reporting requirements remain understood and aligned with development progress.
• Raise risks, issues, and dependencies to the end-client PM for inclusion in the RAID log.
• Provide updates and inputs for weekly status reporting to Finance and Programme Management as needed.
• Support change-control governance to avoid scope creep and ensure discipline around design freeze.
1. Build Oversight, Quality Assurance & Developer Management:
• Act as bridge between Finance stakeholders and the development team.
• Provide daily guidance to developers to ensure accurate delivery against requirements.
• Review developer outputs for completeness, consistency and compliance with requirements in design documents.
• Support test strategy (unit, UAT, regression) and define test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
• Support reconciliation to legacy reports where appropriate.
• Support team in timely resolution of reporting defects.
1. Implementation, Deployment & Controls Integration
• Support implementation activities during deployment from a validation perspective.
1. Documentation, Knowledge Transfer & Sustainability
• Input, support and collaborate in the production of the end-to-end Documentation Library to enable long-term sustainability of reports for the end client.
• Provide training and knowledge transfer to help Finance become fully self-sufficient in running, maintaining, and interpreting the new reports.
• Support the embedding of processes for ongoing governance, quality control, and optimisation.
Deliverables:
• Requirements Pack including:
• Business Requirements Document (BRD)
• Functional Requirements Document (FRD)
• Non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, auditability)
• Reporting Catalogue (all required finance reports, KPIs, dependencies, Source-to-target mapping, reporting logic/calculations)
• Stakeholder Map, RACI and Governance Plan
• Prioritised Requirements Backlog (Agile style)
• Support and collaborate in the production of the End-to-End Documentation Library, including:
• Business rules and definitions
• Technical build documentation
• Data dictionary
• Calculation logic catalogue
• “How to maintain” guides
• Troubleshooting & support procedures
• Training materials and sessions (slides, walk-throughs, user guides).
