Role description
Business Analyst | Location: Houston, TX | Contract
Key Responsibilities
β’ Leads the rollout of new reporting, automation capabilities, and shared data-services processes, managing readiness checks, validation, documentation, and approval coordination through enterprise launch.
β’ Owns release enablement activities to ensure solutions are production-ready, well-documented, and smoothly adopted by stakeholders.
β’ Delivers user adoption support, including role-based training, quick-reference guides, and ongoing assistance post-launch.
β’ Reinforces and continuously improves standard operating practices for shared data processes to increase efficiency, scale, and consistency.
β’ Executes data management strategy initiatives by implementing automation to validate, cleanse, and continuously monitor data quality at scale.
β’ Supports and matures data governance practices to sustain data accuracy, consistency, and alignment with applicable compliance expectations.
β’ Performs and documents data mapping to support integration and interoperability across multiple platforms and systems.
β’ Partners with cross-functional teams to expand self-service and AI-assisted access to trusted, well-curated data for analytics and decision-making.
β’ Runs analyses and proofs of concept, including automated validation and pattern/anomaly detection, to surface trends and actionable insights.
β’ Builds and maintains data assets and documentation, including data dictionaries/catalog content, metadata, and lineage, along with user-facing enablement materials such as job aids, training content, and short videos.
β’ Coaches teammates and business users on data tools, standards, and best practices to improve overall data literacy.
β’ Uses data-driven discovery to identify opportunities and contribute ideas during early-stage solution design and prioritization.
β’ Supports the definition of project goals, measures of success, and KPIs, and helps track outcomes against those targets.
Required Qualifications
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
β’ Demonstrated experience in data analysis, data quality, data management, and governance.
β’ Hands-on exposure to data cataloging and metadata management practices/tools.
β’ Proficiency with SQL, Power BI (or similar visualization tooling), and standard productivity tools (e.g., MS Office).
β’ Strong analytical problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
β’ Familiarity with data privacy, controls, and compliance concepts.
β’ Ability to define practical rules for identifying stale, redundant, or conflicting data and apply those rules consistently.
β’ Experience using automation to streamline data validation, remediation, and ongoing monitoring.
β’ Understanding of governance frameworks and how to operationalize them to improve trust and control.
β’ Ability to assess current-state workflows and data movement, document them clearly, and partner on future-state improvements.
β’ Comfortable writing queries with joins, aggregations, and common SQL functions to extract and shape data.
β’ Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with large/complex datasets.
β’ Ability to tailor executive-ready communication to the audience, including succinct messaging for senior leaders and clear/usable messaging for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Preferred experience with modern cloud data platforms and tools (e.g., Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and enterprise catalog solutions such as Atlan).
β’ Strong understanding of data mapping methods and integration concepts.
β’ Experience translating analysis into concrete recommendations that reduce friction, improve throughput, and raise data maturity across the value chain.
β’ Experience driving change with stakeholders across departments and supporting implementation and measurement after rollout.
