Role description
Type of Position: Contract Location: Remote Compensation: $45-60/hour DOE About Us: Knowledge Relay is a leading player in the data visualization market, specializing in providing innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of government and nuclear industries. Position Overview: We are seeking a Business Analyst / Data Analyst Contractor for a 6-month engagement to support a large-scale data migration and business intelligence initiative. This role will focus on business analysis, requirements gathering, and data mapping to support the migration of data into a centralized data warehouse. The successful candidate will also lead requirements gathering for Power BI dashboards and, ideally, have hands-on skills in data modeling, dataset creation, and dashboard creation to support dashboard development and analytics. Key Responsibilities: Lead business requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders to capture data migration and reporting needs. Document and manage functional and technical requirements for data migration processes. Collaborate with system owners and data engineers to perform data mapping between source systems (Maximo, eSOMS, Sentinel, Primavera) and the enterprise data warehouse. Develop and maintain source-to-target mapping documentation, data dictionaries, and process flow diagrams. Assess and analyze data quality, data gaps, and transformation requirements. Work closely with data and BI teams to define and validate Power BI dashboard requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Translate business needs into Power BI dataset models that support dashboard visualization and analytics. Support the design, validation, and testing of dashboards and datasets, ensuring accuracy and consistency of underlying data. Contribute to the creation of data pipelines and data models optimized for reporting and performance. Provide analytical insights and recommendations based on migrated and transformed data. Qualifications: Required Skills and Experience: 5+ years of experience in business analysis, data analysis, or related roles. Proven experience gathering requirements for data migration and business intelligence initiatives. Familiarity with enterprise systems such as Maximo, eSOMS, Sentinel, and Primavera (understanding their data structures is a plus). Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL workflows, and data modeling. Experience defining and documenting Power BI dashboard requirements with business stakeholders. Hands-on experience with Power BI — particularly data modeling, dataset creation, DAX, and Power Query (M). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Excellent communication skills for bridging business and technical teams. Preferred Skills: Proficiency in SQL for data exploration and validation. Familiarity with data governance and metadata management practices. Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, or Oracle. Experience in utilities, asset management, or industrial operations domains. Understanding of data science or predictive analytics concepts for future Power BI use cases. Soft Skills: Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills. Ability to clearly document and communicate complex data concepts. Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing deliverables independently. Analytical mindset with attention to detail and quality. About the Position: 6-month contract with potential extension.
