Business Data Analyst

Job Description This position is seeking a highly motivated, curious professional who can lead application and system implementation projects while also performing in-depth data analysis. The ideal candidate combines strong project management capabilities with advanced technical expertise in Excel, Microsoft Access, SQL, and VBA. The resource will manage projects through the full lifecycle, work directly with business stakeholders and subject-matter experts, analyze complex datasets, develop data-driven solutions, and translate technical findings into actionable business recommendations. This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, asking questions in unfamiliar business areas, solving ambiguous problems, and continuously learning new domains. Skills / Experience / Education Requirements Professional Experience • 5+ years of related experience preferred • Translate technical/data findings into business recommendations • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Business process improvement • Working with business stakeholders and subject-matter experts • Strong communication and presentation skills • Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, computer science, data science Project Management Experience • Application or system implementation projects • Manage one moderate-sized project or multiple smaller projects • Project planning, scheduling, risk management, resource allocation, and project controls • Project management methodologies and PMO/PMI standards Technical Skills • Advanced Excel – 3+ years - Pivot tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, Complex formulas, Data analysis and modeling • Microsoft Access - Database design, Relational database development, Queries, VBA automation • SQL - Efficient query writing, Data extraction, Performance tuning, Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or another major RDBMS • VBA - Macro development, Automation of repetitive processes, Demonstrated examples of automation that improved efficiency Essential Job Duties Project Management • Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close application/system implementation projects. • Develop project plans, schedules, risk registers, and resource allocations. • Monitor project quality, cost, schedule, and performance metrics. Data Analysis & Discovery • Perform deep-dive analysis of large and complex datasets. • Use advanced Excel, Access, SQL, and VBA to investigate business questions. • Build and maintain data models, dashboards, reports, and automated analytical tools. • Identify trends, gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities within business processes. Business Problem Solving • Break complex or ambiguous business problems into manageable analytical tasks. • Develop hypotheses, conduct analysis, and deliver actionable recommendations. • Explore new analytical techniques, tools, and data sources. Stakeholder Engagement • Lead interviews, workshops, brainstorming sessions, and working meetings. • Collaborate with stakeholders across finance, operations, marketing, product, and other business areas. • Quickly develop an understanding of unfamiliar business processes and terminology. Communication & Knowledge Sharing • Facilitate meetings and drive discussions toward clear outcomes and next steps. • Communicate technical findings in a clear, business-friendly manner. • Share analytical findings, techniques, and best practices with the broader team.
