Role description
About PulseMed
PulseMed provides white-label, physician-controlled AI platforms for medical practices. Our chatbots deliver 24/7 patient support using only physician-approved content, solving the accuracy and trust problems that make general-purpose AI unsafe for clinical use.
Weβre deployed in live healthcare environments with a production-proven framework that includes curated knowledge bases, HIPAA-compliant de-identification, triage workflows, embeddable widgets, and integrated admin dashboards.
Weβre looking for an AI Agent / Chatbot Engineer to help us design, build, and scale healthcare-specific AI agents on top of this framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and optimize AI chatbots
- Design and implement LLM-powered agents for patient support and education.
- Use retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to ground responses in physician-approved documents.
- Keep hallucination rates low and ensure every response is traceable to its sources.
- Work with knowledge retrieval & data
- Ingest and process PDFs, protocols, and handouts (including OCR for scanned documents).
- Implement and tune document chunking, indexing, and relevance scoring.
- Help maintain a tiered knowledge system: practice content β public guidelines β physician referral.
- Safety, triage & compliance
- Implement emergency keyword detection and escalation logic (e.g., 911/ER flows).
- Collaborate with clinicians to encode practice-specific triage and escalation rules.
- Work within HIPAA-minded workflows, including PHI de-identification and audit-friendly logging.
- Conversation quality & UX
- Design prompts and system behavior for empathetic, concise, patient-friendly responses.
- Ensure the AI adapts tone to patient emotion and context and maintains conversation memory.
- Use analytics to identify issues, knowledge gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Integrations & product collaboration
- Help embed chatbots as widgets into client sites and portals.
- Work with product/engineering on integrations with EHRs, scheduling systems, and internal dashboards.
- Tailor agents for different specialties (e.g., pediatrics, orthopedics, etc.).
Required Qualifications
- Promptness and communication skills: we work fast and we need someone to keep up with us. This is imperative and can be the cause of termination.
-Experience building production conversational AI, LLM agents, or chatbots.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js)
- Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt engineering.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
- Document ingestion and chunking.
- Vector search / retrieval systems.
- Proven ability to ship features end-to-end (design, implementation, monitoring, iteration).
- Comfort working in a setting where safety, reliability, and traceability are critical.
Nice to Have
- Experience in healthcare, digital health, or other regulated environments.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and PHI-safe system design.
- Experience with:
- Clinical decision support or triage logic.
- OCR and PDF/document processing.
- Analytics dashboards and experimentation.
- Embeddable widgets, frames, and cross-origin integrations.
What We Offer
- The chance to build AI that is used daily by real patients and physicians.
- A mission-driven team focused on safe, accurate, humanistic healthcare AI.
- Close collaboration with physician-founders and a small, high-ownership engineering team.
- Fully remote role with flexibility and autonomy.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: From $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 β 10 per week
Benefits:
Flexible schedule
Work Location: Remote
