Key Responsibilities
CIM Model Design & Development
Design and develop CIM-compliant data models to represent Oncorβs electrical network across transmission, distribution, and asset management domains.
Customize and extend CIM standards (IEC 61970/61968) to meet Oncorβs operational, technical, and regulatory needs.
Ensure the CIM models support key enterprise applications including SCADA, DMS, EMS, GIS, and related systems.
Data Integration & Interoperability
Enable seamless data exchange across enterprise systems using CIM as the interoperability standard.
Partner with IT and engineering teams to integrate CIM models into the enterprise architecture and ensure compatibility with existing tools and third-party solutions.
Create and maintain data mappings, transformations, and exchange formats (XML, RDF, etc.).
Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and mentor a team of engineers and analysts on CIM implementation projects.
Work closely with internal stakeholders in operations, IT, and regulatory departments to gather requirements and align models with business goals.
Represent Oncor in industry forums and standards bodies to stay updated on CIM evolution and ensure organizational compliance.
Model Maintenance & Governance
Establish and manage governance processes for CIM model lifecycle management, including versioning, validation, and documentation.
Conduct periodic audits and updates to maintain model accuracy and alignment with current network configurations and standards.
Testing & Validation
Develop and execute test plans to validate CIM models against operational data and system specifications.
Ensure model performance meets scalability, reliability, and mission-critical application requirements.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to leverage CIM for advanced analytics, grid modernization, and digital transformation projects.
Stay informed of emerging technologies, standards, and best practices within the utility industry to drive continuous innovation.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelorβs degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; Masterβs degree preferred.
Experience:
7+ years of experience in the electric utility industry, including a minimum of 3 years in CIM design and implementation.
Strong understanding and hands-on experience with IEC 61970/61968 standards.
Proficiency with data modeling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, CIMTool, and data formats like XML, RDF, JSON.
Experience working with utility systems such as SCADA, DMS, EMS, GIS, or OMS.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in programming/scripting languages (Python, Java, SQL) for automation and data processing.
Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns, middleware, and APIs.
Knowledge of electrical network operations, including transmission and distribution systems.
Preferred Certifications:
CIM-related certifications (e.g., IEC CIM certification).
PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
