Role description
Climate Data Specialist (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your expertise in climate science could directly shape how AI reasons about one of the most important challenges facing our planet? We're looking for environmental science specialists to develop and evaluate complex, real-world problems that train cutting-edge AI models to think more rigorously about climate, ecology, and sustainability.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for Masters and PhD-level scientists who want to put their deep domain knowledge to work in a meaningful new way — no prior AI experience required.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Design and develop advanced, real-world environmental science problems spanning climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, and related fields
• Solve and critically review complex problem sets to ensure scientific accuracy, depth, and rigor
• Apply your domain expertise to help AI models reason more accurately about environmental systems
• Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to refine and improve AI outputs
• Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of scientific clarity and precision
Who You Are
• Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field
• Strong working knowledge of climate modeling, ecological systems, or sustainability science
• Comfortable coding in Python or R for research or data analysis
• Exceptionally clear written communicator with sharp attention to detail
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently in an asynchronous environment
• Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand
Nice to Have
• Experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI-assisted research tools
• Background in interdisciplinary environmental research or cross-domain modeling
• Prior involvement in peer review, technical writing, or scientific communication
Why Join Us
• Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs — your expertise directly shapes how AI understands the natural world
• Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
• Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
• Contribute to AI development that could meaningfully support climate research and environmental decision-making at scale
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
