Job – Climate Data Specialist Location: 100% Remote (PST / CST) Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension Must: Candidate-written cover letter (original) highlighting SQL/data analysis, GHG emissions/climate reporting, complex dataset handling/reporting, and fit/interest in Sustainability team. Job Description This position combines data engineering, analytics, and sustainability expertise. The primary responsibility is to build and manage a reliable carbon data pipelineβ€”ensuring environmental data is accurate, structured, and ready for reporting and third-party audits. The role involves translating raw operational data (such as cloud usage or vendor data) into meaningful emissions insights aligned with global climate standards. Key Responsibilities 1. Data Collection & Engineering β€’ Extract environmental data from internal data lakes and external APIs β€’ Clean, transform, and structure raw datasets β€’ Prepare data for greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations 1. Carbon Accounting β€’ Calculate emissions across: β€’ Scope 1 (direct emissions) β€’ Scope 2 (energy-related emissions) β€’ Scope 3 (indirect/supply chain emissions) β€’ Apply emission factors using recognized frameworks (GHG Protocol) β€’ Document methodologies for transparency and audit readiness 1. Data Validation & Quality Assurance β€’ Identify anomalies, missing data, and inconsistencies β€’ Investigate unexpected trends (e.g., spikes in usage data) β€’ Ensure datasets meet audit standards 1. Visualization & Reporting β€’ Develop dashboards (e.g., Tableau) to track climate metrics β€’ Present insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders β€’ Support executive-level reporting 1. Process Optimization β€’ Improve and automate data collection workflows β€’ Bridge sustainability requirements with technical systems β€’ Contribute to building AI-driven solutions for emissions tracking Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a β€œdata translator” who can connect technical data with sustainability outcomes.
