This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for environmental scientists who want to put their deep expertise to work beyond the lab or classroom. • Organization: Alignerr • Type: Hourly Contract • Location: Remote • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do • Design and develop advanced, real-world environmental science problems spanning climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, and related domains • Solve and critically review complex problem sets to ensure scientific accuracy, depth, and rigor • Apply your domain expertise to help AI systems reason more effectively about environmental science concepts • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to refine and improve AI model outputs • Ensure all deliverables meet high standards of scientific clarity, precision, and relevance Who You Are • Holds a Master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field • Strong expertise in at least one of: climate modeling, ecology, sustainability science, or environmental data analysis • Proficient in Python or R for research, data analysis, or scientific computing • Exceptional written communication skills — you can translate complex science into clear, structured problem statements • Detail-oriented and rigorous, with a commitment to accuracy and scientific integrity • Fluent in English and currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand Nice to Have • Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or AI training workflows • Background in science communication, academic writing, or curriculum development • Familiarity with AI tools or machine learning concepts as an end user or researcher • Published research or hands-on fieldwork experience in environmental or climate science Why Join Us • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work • Contribute directly to AI that could improve how the world understands and responds to environmental challenges • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
