We are seeking a hands-on Data Governance Manager to lead the implementation of practical,
scalable data governance solutions for high-impact public sector initiatives. This role will focus on standing up data governance programs, enabling data quality practices, and delivering user-focused data management tools and training.
The ideal candidate is someone who can bridge the gap between technical data tools and
business operations, with proven experience rolling out governance frameworks, working with
data stewards, and engaging non-technical stakeholders in state or government settings.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the implementation and operationalization of data governance programs across
state agency projects
• Define and roll out data governance frameworks based on industry best practices (e.g.,
DAMA DMBOK)
• Establish and oversee key data governance roles such as data owners, stewards, and
custodians
• Implement data profiling, data quality rules, and monitoring processes using modern
data tools
• Provide training and enablement for business and technical users to drive adoption of
governance practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment across data
management, compliance, and reporting
• Contribute to the setup or enhancement of data management organizations (DMOs or
COEs)
• Support governance needs across cloud and hybrid environments, including Google
Cloud Platform (GCP)
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience in data governance or data management roles with a focus on
implementation
• Proven experience implementing data governance frameworks using models like DAMA
DMBOK
• Direct, hands-on experience with at least one of the following tools:
○ GCP Dataplex, Collibra, Informatica, or Alation
• Strong understanding of data governance roles and how they apply in enterprise
environments
• Experience with data profiling, data quality assessment, and rule-based data validation
• Experience standing up or scaling a Data Governance Office (DGO), Data Management
Organization, or Center of Excellence
• Strong facilitation and communication skills; ability to train and influence non-technical
users
• Experience working in or with public sector clients (state or federal agencies strongly
preferred)
• Familiarity with cloud environments including GCP, AWS, or Azure
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting data governance in highly regulated environments (e.g.,
healthcare, transportation, government)
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR)
• Certifications in data governance or data management (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, PMP)
