Role description
OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure solutions across multiple platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud architecture, virtualization, and modern software development practices to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient cloud services. The Cloud Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop cloud-based applications and ensure optimal performance of our cloud environments.
Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure utilizing platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, OpenStack, Rackspace, and VMware.
Develop and maintain scalable web services and SaaS solutions using RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
Implement automation scripts and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, PowerShell, Bash scripting, and Shell Scripting to streamline deployment processes.
Ensure system security through hardening practices, vulnerability assessments, and compliance with industry standards.
Collaborate on system hardening, network security (VPNs), and infrastructure resilience strategies to safeguard data integrity.
Optimize cloud infrastructure performance by monitoring resource utilization and implementing best practices for IaaS and PaaS environments.
Support application development teams by providing cloud architecture guidance for scalable software deployment using CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or similar tools.
Manage databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL databases like MongoDB or DynamoDB to support data-driven applications.
Maintain documentation of cloud architecture designs and operational procedures following SDLC best practices.
Stay current with emerging cloud technologies including IoT integrations and DevOps methodologies to continually improve infrastructure capabilities.
Requirements
Proven experience in cloud computing platforms including AWS (S3, EC2), Google Cloud Platform, Azure, OpenStack, Rackspace or VMware environments.
Strong understanding of cloud architecture, virtualization (Docker, Kubernetes), IT infrastructure, system hardening, and cloud security best practices.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash (Unix shell), PowerShell; experience with automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet or Chef.
Solid background in software development with knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), and application deployment strategies.
Familiarity with databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle SQL Server; experience with NoSQL databases is a plus.
Knowledge of operating systems including Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS), Windows Server; experience managing virtualization environments is essential.
Ability to develop cloud-native applications using JavaScript frameworks like Node.js or Ruby on Rails is advantageous.
Experience working within Agile development teams utilizing SDLC methodologies for continuous improvement.
