Role Description:
This is a contract role ( consultant) supporting an active World Bank project on urban mobility and activity indices, based in Washington, DC with hybrid flexibility.
The consultant will help develop a data-driven Urban Activity Index, leveraging anonymized mobility and geospatial data to measure urban space usage across cities. This work will inform policy decisions related to economic activity, infrastructure accessibility, and climate resilience.
Key responsibilities:
• Process and analyze large-scale mobility, GPS, and geolocation datasets.
• Build high-frequency indices of urban activity using AI and statistical modeling.
• Develop dashboards and data visualizations to track population movement and urban dynamics.
• Identify correlations between urban space usage, climate events, and economic activity.
• Collaborate with World Bank technical teams to ensure analytical outputs meet project standards.
• Support evidence-based insights for urban policy, planning, and climate resilience initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) or R for data processing and modeling.
• Experience with mobility data, geospatial analysis, and time-series modeling.
• Familiarity with AI/ML methods for clustering, anomaly detection, or predictive modeling.
• Knowledge of GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, GeoPandas) and visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Dash).
• Understanding of urban development, climate adaptation, or infrastructure planning.
• Excellent data storytelling and report-writing skills.
• Experience working with international organizations or research institutions preferred.
• Master’s degree in Data Science, Urban Analytics, Computer Science, Economics, or related field preferred.
