Role description
Cyber Recovery Engineer Chicago, IL (Hybrid) STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Cyber Recovery Engineer on behalf of our client in Chicago, IL. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced infrastructure professional with expertise in cyber recovery, disaster recovery, enterprise backup platforms, and operational resilience within highly regulated environments. The selected candidate will support the design, testing, and operational readiness of cyber recovery capabilities, while collaborating closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to strengthen enterprise resilience and recovery operations. Key Responsibilities • Support operations of isolated recovery environments (IRE) and clean room infrastructure • Execute disaster recovery simulations and full-scale recovery testing activities • Monitor and manage enterprise backup and recovery platforms including Cohesity, Rubrik, Veeam, and Zerto • Perform backup validation, restore testing, and track RTO/RPO metrics • Maintain technical documentation including runbooks, test results, remediation actions, and recovery procedures • Assist with audit readiness, evidence collection, and compliance reporting aligned with regulatory frameworks • Contribute to automation and scripting initiatives using Python, Bash, or PowerShell • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve recovery readiness, resilience, and operational continuity Required Qualifications • 7 10 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, IT operations, or related technical environments • Experience working in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, utilities, or government • Hands-on experience with disaster recovery, backup operations, or cyber recovery initiatives • Experience with enterprise backup or replication platforms • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, VLANs, routing, and firewalls • Basic scripting knowledge using Python, Bash, or PowerShell • Strong technical documentation and communication skills • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF, FFIEC, and NYDFS Preferred Qualifications • Experience supporting clean room or isolated recovery environments • Exposure to regulatory audits and examinations • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible • Background in cybersecurity, resilience engineering, or cloud infrastructure • Certifications such as Security+, CySA+, AWS Fundamentals, or Azure Fundamentals • Experience with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow • Exposure to ransomware recovery exercises or incident response operations Work Model • Hybrid schedule with onsite presence required three days per week in Chicago, IL
