Role description
Data Analyst
6 Month Contract - Inside IR35
Fully Remote - Must be eligible for SC Clearance
We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst to join a data transformation programme focused on modernising and improving the end to end Breast Screening service in England.
You will work as part of a small, specialist data team analysing complex datasets across multiple systems. Your work will directly support the design of future data structures, improve data quality, and help translate real-world data issues into clear, agreed business rules.
This is a role for someone who enjoys digging into messy data, asking the right questions, and working closely with stakeholders to turn analysis into practical outcomes.
What you will be doing
• Defining and validating the structure and meaning of target datasets
• Identifying, quantifying, and explaining data quality issues
• Turning data anomalies into agreed business rules with clinical and operational stakeholders
• Analysing duplicates, missing data, and inconsistencies and proposing resolution options
• Mapping legacy data fields to target data dictionary definitions
• Producing clear, decision-ready outputs including dashboards, issue summaries, and sign-off packs
• Creating clear analytical documentation so work can be reviewed and repeated
• Working closely with subject matter experts, screening teams, and trusts to confirm data meaning
Essential experience
• Strong experience assessing data completeness, validity, consistency, and uniqueness
• Ability to define entities, relationships, and minimum viable datasets aligned to a target schema
• Strong SQL skills for analysis, validation, and verification of transformation outputs
• Experience producing dashboards and analytical outputs, including Power BI
• Proven experience working with geospatial data, including spatial formats, coordinate reference systems, and spatial analysis workflows
• Strong ability to interpret geographical context and translate local or regional insights into national-level outputs
• Experience working with publicly available official datasets, particularly ONS open data
What we are looking for
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
• A collaborative, team-first mindset
• A proactive approach and the confidence to work with minimal supervision
• A positive attitude and willingness to engage with ambiguity and change
Nice to have
• Knowledge of screening pathways, operational reporting, and common KPIs
• Familiarity with data governance, data dictionaries, and controlled vocabularies
Please note: candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance vetting due to access to sensitive systems and data.
