Role purpose
This role leads on developing and applying advanced data analysis, automation and AI tools to strengthen the Chamber’s intelligence and reporting capabilities. It will also require the review and ordering of all existing data in the Chamber and ensuring that working with our IT providers that system interoperability, data accuracy and GDPR requirements are maintained.
Working across all Chamber departments, you will design and implement analytical systems including the development of the Blueprint for a private Large Language Model (LLM) to support research, communications and business insight, helping to deliver smarter decision-making and more efficient operations. This may involve working with members, and other associated bodies
The role blends data science and management, research analysis and AI innovation, providing a central evidence base for membership insight, policy development, skills planning (including LSIP) and service performance.
You will ensure that the Chamber’s data resources are well-structured, secure and ethically managed, and that data-driven insights are accessible, accurate and impactful.
Key responsibilities
AI and automation
• Lead on developing, training and deploying the blueprint for a private Large Language Model (LLM) to support analysis, summarisation and reporting across Chamber programmes.
• Apply natural language processing (NLP) and other AI techniques to extract insight from qualitative data such as survey responses, consultation feedback, reports and media.
• Build tools and workflows that automate data gathering, cleaning and reporting.
• Ensure all AI applications meet standards for data protection, transparency and ethical use.
Data analysis and insight
• Develop and maintain dashboards and visual reports covering membership, business support, policy engagement, events, and LSIP activity.
• Analyse data from multiple systems (CRM, surveys, financial and operational sources) to provide actionable insight for management and partners.
• Identify trends, opportunities and risks through statistical and qualitative analysis.
• Support evidence-based policy development and strategy through data-driven recommendations.
Collaboration and communication
• Work with teams across the Chamber, including membership, marketing, skills, policy, and projects, to identify data needs and deliver tailored analytical support.
• Present complex findings in accessible visual and written formats for internal and external stakeholders.
Governance and data management
• Manage the Chamber’s data assets to ensure integrity, consistency and compliance with GDPR.
• Establish and document clear data standards and protocols for collection, storage and reporting.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in the Chamber’s digital and analytical systems.
Person specification
Essential
• Strong analytical and technical skills with experience handling complex, multi-source datasets.
• Experience developing or applying machine learning / NLP models (including LLMs).
• Proficiency in Python (or R) and key data science libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, LangChain).
• Ability to create dashboards and visualisations (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate data into insight for non-technical audiences.
• Understanding of data protection, information governance and ethical AI use.
• High attention to detail, initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
Desirable
• Experience within a membership body, public sector, or business support organisation.
• Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g. ChamberMaster, Rubi, or Hubspot. Dynamics,).
• Experience using or fine-tuning open-source LLMs or applying APIs (e.g. OpenAI,etc).
• Knowledge of the Greater Devon area and local economic landscape.
• Understanding of UK policy, skills and business support environments.
