Role description
Data Analyst & Data Visualization Specialist (San Fransisco) This is a 6-month, full-time (40 hours/week), on-site contract role located in San Francisco, CA. Summary This role supports a Merchandise Planning and Inventory Management data analytics and reporting team by delivering high-impact analytical products that drive strategic decision-making. The position focuses on transforming complex retail data into actionable insights through analysis, dashboards, storytelling, and recommendations, while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to maximize business value from data products. Our Ideal Candidate • 3+ years of experience in data analysis and data visualization. • Passion for data-driven decision-making with a strong foundation in analytics and business problem solving. • Proficient in data visualization tools such as Looker or PowerBI, with strong analytical and storytelling skills. • Experienced with SQL and relational databases, including large-scale data environments. • Familiar with data integration tools and analytics workflows. • Skilled in collaborating with cross-functional teams including analytics, data science, engineering, and product. • Able to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities. • Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs and timelines. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail. • Naturally curious about business operations and uncovering insights from complex data. Job Description In this role, you will analyze complex retail datasets to generate insights, KPIs, and recommendations that support merchandise planning and inventory management initiatives. You’ll partner with business stakeholders, regional analysts, and cross-functional teams to understand data needs, guide analytical approaches, and support implementation. This includes building dashboards to track adoption and business impact of data products, optimizing and standardizing reporting through automation, and improving data quality in collaboration with data and engineering teams. You will also bring insights to life through clear, compelling data storytelling for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. Education And Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. • 3+ years of professional experience analyzing complex datasets and delivering actionable recommendations. • 3+ years of applied data visualization experience. • 3+ years of experience extracting and manipulating large datasets using SQL (experience with cloud or enterprise databases preferred). • Experience with big data related to sales, inventory, or planning; retail experience is a plus. • Experience with data integration tools and programming languages such as Python or R is a plus. • Master’s degree is a plus. Additional Requirements This opportunity is located in San Francisco, CA and requires on-site work. The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $42.00 – $45.00 per hour. This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements.
