Geospatial Data Specialist (Drone & Heritage Data) – Fixed-Term Contract Location: York, United Kingdom (Hybrid Working) Employment Type: Part-Time (21.6 Hours per Week), 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract Salary: £32,616 FTE + Excellent Benefits Overview Our client is seeking a Geospatial Data Specialist to support a major heritage data and research infrastructure project focused on the preservation, management, and accessibility of digital heritage assets. This role will be responsible for preparing drone-derived geospatial datasets for long-term archiving and public access, ensuring data quality, compliance, and usability for future research, conservation, heritage management, and public engagement. The successful candidate will work with advanced remote sensing and geospatial data while contributing to nationally significant heritage and conservation initiatives. Responsibilities • Prepare drone-derived geospatial datasets for long-term preservation and public accessibility. • Collate, clean, standardise, and organise digital datasets for archival purposes. • Manage and process photogrammetry, LiDAR, and other remote sensing datasets. • Assess data sensitivity, licensing requirements, and metadata standards. • Ensure datasets comply with archive and preservation standards. • Support the creation of reusable data resources for research, conservation, and heritage management. • Maintain accurate documentation and metadata records. • Contribute to data governance and digital preservation activities. • Manage workloads effectively to meet project deadlines within a fixed-term programme. • Collaborate with researchers, heritage professionals, and technical stakeholders to support project objectives. Requirements Essential Qualifications • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in: • Archaeology • Geospatial Science • Data Management • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) • Or a related discipline Essential Experience • Experience working with geospatial datasets. • Experience handling photogrammetry, LiDAR, remote sensing, or drone-generated data. • Experience in data preparation, digital archiving, or data management. • Experience working with heritage data, archives, collections, or research environments. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work within project deadlines. Skills • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Excellent attention to detail and data quality standards. • Understanding of metadata, data standards, and digital preservation principles. • Ability to assess data licensing, sensitivity, and compliance requirements. • Strong organisational and workload management skills. • Effective communication and collaboration capabilities. Desirable Experience • Experience supporting heritage science, conservation, or archaeological projects. • Knowledge of digital research infrastructure and data repository environments. • Understanding of long-term digital preservation practices.
