Role: Senior Data Analyst (Financial)
Supporting: Large Financial Services Client
Location: McLean, VA (Onsite)
Assignment Type: Contract Only
Duration: Approximately 6 Months
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial / Data Analyst to support a large, strategic financial initiative. This role blends financial analysis, complex data reconciliation, reporting, forecasting, and project support, working closely with both business and technology partners. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical depth, advanced Excel and SQL expertise, and the ability to interpret Python code while thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This is a long-term contract opportunity for a hands-on analyst who enjoys tackling large datasets, improving processes, and contributing to high-impact financial projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Excel expertise for complex data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and transformation in forecasting processes
Document data transformation, financial process, and technical requirements
Produce high-quality deliverables including requirements, reconciliations, and testing results
Develop and maintain technical, process, and data documentation
Design and execute acceptance testing, including test cases, regressions, and reconciliations using Excel and SQL
Automate data validation and input preparation processes
Track and manage features, stories, and issues in JIRA
Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve project issues, dependencies, and configuration changes
Lead requirements, analysis, and testing for financial reports using SQL and advanced Excel
Perform complex analysis of financial, forecasting, and risk data
Create user-facing materials such as guides, specifications, release notes, and test summaries
Support project management activities including issue analysis, data conversion, cataloging, controls, and user training
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, quantitative finance, statistics, mathematics, economics, data analytics, or related field; 5+ years of relevant experience
• Advanced Excel expertise required
• Strong experience with large datasets, relational databases, and SQL
• Proven ability to write and optimize SQL queries against complex data structures
• Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills
• Expertise in financial statements and general ledger/subledger data preferred
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Experience with financial systems or accounting-related applications preferred
• Strong financial and data analysis skills; quick learner of complex financial concepts; mortgage industry experience a plus
Key to Success
• Excel expert for analyzing large datasets, reconciliations, and reporting
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives of varying scope
• Strong focus on accuracy, reliability, timelines, and delivery
• Skilled at using data to validate code and processes
• Collaborative team player with a positive attitude
Compensation and Benefits: The pay rate for this position is between $49.99
