Role description
Data & Analytics Architect
Responsibilities
We are looking for a deeply technical, hands-on Lead Data & Analytics Architect to drive modernization of data architecture and reporting. This role combines strategic thinking (architecture, standards, and roadmap) with strong execution as an individual contributor.Key Responsibilities:
β’ Immediate Focus (3β6 months): Actively convert a high volume of SSRS reports from T-SQL stored procedure datasets to an SSAS Tabular semantic model using DAX. Own a subset of reports end-to-end (redesign datasets, migrate logic, optimize reports, parameters, subscriptions, and layouts) while helping build the supporting Snowflake data warehouse and semantic layer.
β’ Ongoing & Longer-Term: Define reporting patterns, standards, and architecture. Evolve the data warehouse and semantic models for performance and maintainability. Operate with a DevOps mindset (source control, CI/CD, documentation). Champion AI-first development practices to significantly boost productivity (targeting step-change gains) while maintaining quality and governance. Mentor teammates through pairing, reviews, and reusable assets.
Required Skills
β’ Advanced expertise in SSRS report development and refactoring
β’ Strong hands-on experience with SSAS Tabular models and DAX (writing & tuning)
β’ Expert-level T-SQL (stored procedures, performance tuning, debugging)
β’ Solid experience with SSRS parameters, datasets, and subscriptions
β’ Strong performance tuning mindset across semantic and reporting layers
β’ Demonstrated AI-first mindset β using AI/LLM tools (e.g., Copilot) to accelerate SQL/DAX generation, testing, analysis, and documentation
Essential for Long-Term Success:
β’ Proven ability to lead technically as an IC (architecture, patterns, standards) without formal management
β’ Experience in DevOps environments (source control, CI/CD β preferably Azure DevOps/GitHub)
β’ Excellent communication skills to translate business needs into technical solutions
Preferred Skills
β’ Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses
β’ Background in dimensional modeling (Kimball, star schemas)
β’ Familiarity with Azure SQL, data pipelines/ELT, automated testing, and modern development practices (SQL Projects, VS Code, GitHub Actions)
This is a contractor role emphasizing deep technical delivery, modernization, and raising the teamβs engineering capabilities through modern practices and AI tooling.
