Role description
Overview We are seeking a highly technical Data Architect with deep expertise in SQL, Azure, Data Governance, and custom or homegrown MDM architecture. This role requires someone who can design, build, troubleshoot, and optimize data systems at the backend and database layer. The ideal candidate has created MDM and governance capabilities from scratch rather than relying on vendor configurations. Key Responsibilities • Architect and build scalable data systems across Azure and SQL platforms. • Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and performance optimizations. • Diagnose and resolve issues across pipelines, schemas, API integrations, and MDM data flows. • Lead the design of custom or homegrown MDM capabilities including matching logic, merging logic, golden record rules, data quality rule engines, metadata and lineage solutions, and custom hub services. • Define and maintain enterprise data models, reference and master data domains, and schema standards. • Implement and enhance Data Governance frameworks including data quality, metadata management, stewardship models, and validation rules. • Collaborate with engineering, security, product, and business data owners to ensure reliable and compliant data operations. • Troubleshoot issues end to end across Azure components, pipelines, databases, and governance layers. Required Experience • Strong technical background as a Data Architect or Senior Data Engineer with architectural responsibilities. • Expert SQL including query development, tuning, debugging, and root cause analysis. • Strong Azure experience including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse or Databricks, Event Hub, Logic Apps, Functions, Blob Storage, and Key Vault. • Deep MDM experience that includes building custom or homegrown solutions rather than configuring vendor tools. • Experience designing data quality rules, metadata standards, stewardship workflows, and governance controls. • Strong understanding of data modeling, schema design, ETL or ELT, API integration architecture, and batch or real-time pipelines. • Ability to diagnose issues across database, pipeline, rule logic, API, and governance layers. Nice to Have • Python, Spark, or Databricks development experience • Experience with event-driven architecture
