Role description
Title: Data Engineer Location: Remote Duration: 12 Months Livescan: Yes - require fingerprinting (Live Scan) as a part of the background check process to be completed in person in California. Job Description: We are seeking a Data Engineer to support enterprise data migration and conversion initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for extracting, analyzing, mapping, transforming, validating, and loading data from multiple legacy systems into modern target platforms while ensuring data quality, integrity, and successful reconciliation. The ideal candidate has experience working with legacy data environments, ETL processes, data mapping, and cross-functional teams. You will play a key role in supporting data conversion efforts, resolving data quality issues, and ensuring business users receive accurate and reliable data. Key Responsibilities • Extract, analyze, profile, cleanse, transform, validate, and load data from legacy systems into target platforms. • Perform data mapping, field mapping, and source-to-target crosswalk analysis. • Validate data integrity, reconciliation, and conversion accuracy throughout migration activities. • Develop and document extraction logic, transformation rules, validation criteria, and data mapping specifications. • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality issues, including variable-length errors, BLOB-size anomalies, and data inconsistencies. • Support ETL processes and ensure successful execution of data conversion activities. • Work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets from multiple source systems. • Validate encrypted files and support secure data transfer processes using SFTP. • Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and project teams to define data conversion requirements. • Assist with data retention planning, cutover sequencing, and conversion readiness activities. • Support testing, issue resolution, and post-conversion validation. • Facilitate knowledge transfer and user training related to converted data and conversion processes. • Maintain documentation and communicate project status, risks, and data-related issues effectively. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a closely related field. • Equivalent professional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Required Experience • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting data conversion, migration, or modernization projects. • Minimum 3 years of experience performing field mapping, crosswalk analysis, data validation, and reconciliation. • Minimum 3 years of experience identifying and resolving data quality issues, including variable-length errors and BLOB-related anomalies. • Minimum 3 years of experience working with legacy systems and relational databases. • Experience participating in data reviews, data dictionary analysis, and secure handling of regulated or encrypted data. Required Technical Skills • Strong understanding of data migration and conversion methodologies. • Experience with ETL processes and data transformation techniques. • Knowledge of source-to-target mapping and data reconciliation. • Experience working with: • Mainframe environments • DB2 • FOCUS • Oracle Database • Microsoft SQL Server • Experience working with flat files and legacy data formats. • Understanding of structured and unstructured datasets. • Familiarity with encrypted file validation and secure file transfer (SFTP). • Knowledge of data retention requirements and regulatory compliance. • Ability to interpret legacy data dictionaries and source system documentation. Preferred Skills • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Excellent documentation and technical communication skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams. • Experience supporting enterprise system modernization or large-scale data migration projects. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
