Role description
Position Title: Data Engineer
Location: Scott AFB, IL (100% Onsite)
Position Status: 6–9 Month Contract-to-Hire
Clearance Requirements: Active DoD Secret Clearance (Top Secret accepted)
Pay Rate: $130K - $150K
Position Description: We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support a federal program at Scott Air Force Base, IL, driving mission-critical data initiatives for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). This role offers the opportunity to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines that integrate structured and unstructured data across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate is a data-focused problem solver with hands-on experience in cloud platforms, data warehousing, and big data technologies, capable of transforming complex datasets into actionable intelligence that empowers decision-making within the Department of Defense.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines and data integration workflows to support enterprise data initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—data scientists, analysts, and engineers—to deliver secure, high-quality data solutions.
• Develop and optimize data models, schemas, and database architectures to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and transformation.
• Implement data quality, governance, and security standards to meet DoD compliance requirements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for data workflows, architecture, and system integrations.
• Support the integration and validation of test use cases within the data environment.
Required Skills & Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related field.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance (Top Secret acceptable).
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala for data processing and automation.
• Strong command of SQL and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle).
• Hands-on experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Familiarity with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Kibana).
• Deep understanding of data governance, quality, and security frameworks.
• Excellent communication and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with AI/ML pipelines or model deployment.
• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Professional Data Engineer, or Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate.
Basic Qualifications
• U.S. Citizenship required.
