Role description
Role: Data Engineer
Location: Addison TX (Onsite)
Ideal Candidate Personality / Soft Skills
• Strong collaborator who works well with cross-functional teams.
• Comfortable operating in a brand-new, evolving environment and helping build processes from the ground up.
• Ownership mindset with the ability to manage, build, and expand data solutions.
• Proactive in managing pipeline health, data quality, and data governance experience.
• Adaptable, hands-on, and capable of balancing engineering execution with operational support.
About the Role
Client is building a cloud-native analytics platform on Azure and Snowflake to support our business operations. The Data Engineer owns the pipelines that make it run — ingesting data from our core source systems, transforming it through a Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture, and keeping it reliable in production. This is hands-on engineering work: you will build, not just advise.
What You'll Own
• Build and maintain ELT pipelines in Azure Data Factory (ADF) ingesting data disparate data sources into Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
• Implement Snowflake Bronze → Silver → Gold layer transformations: incremental loads, SCD Type 2, and fact/dimension modeling aligned to business requirements
• Write and optimize T-SQL against SQL Server for performant source extraction without disrupting operational workloads
• Maintain pipeline monitoring, alerting, and error recovery — pipelines support 24/7 revenue operations and uptime matters
• Handle PHI/PII data in full compliance with HIPAA: field masking, access controls, and audit-ready data handling at every layer
• Collaborate with our AI/ML engineer to ensure Silver layer data structures are ML-ready and consistently documented
Must-Have Skills
• Azure Data Factory and ADLS Gen2 — production pipeline experience, not just training exercises
• Snowflake — tasks, streams, incremental loading, query optimization, RBAC basics
• SQL Server / T-SQL — strong enough to write efficient extraction queries against a complex operational schema
• Advanced SQL — window functions, CTEs, SCD Type 2 implementation
• ETL/ELT patterns — incremental load design, idempotency, error handling
Nice to Have
• Healthcare data experience
• Python for transformation utilities or pipeline testing
• dbt for Silver/Gold layer management
• Azure DevOps / CI/CD for pipeline deployment
Qualifications
• 5-8+ years of data engineering experience with at least 2 years on Azure
• Demonstrated Snowflake production experience
• Bachelor's in CS, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
• Experience working with regulated data (HIPAA, PCI, or similar)
