At Robots & Pencils, we build meaningful, scalable digital products that solve real business problems. We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to work embedded within cross-functional delivery teams, owning product execution across complex digital platforms.
About the Role
We are seeking a Data Engineer for a contract role that will support the design, development, and deployment of data pipelines and infrastructure within a Databricks Lakehouse environment. This role will be instrumental in building scalable ingestion and transformation pipelines, enabling trusted financial reporting, and establishing a strong foundation for future analytics.
Responsibilities
• Design and implement scalable data pipelines
• Build and manage data warehouses and data lakes
• Optimize data processing workflows
• Ensure data quality, reliability, and availability
• Implement data modeling and schema design
• Integrate data from multiple systems
• Implement data validation and monitoring
• Collaborate with analytics, AI, and product teams
• Support data governance and compliance efforts
Requirements
• 3–4+ years of experience in data engineering
• Strong SQL and Python/Scala skills
• Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks
• Experience with cloud data platforms
• Knowledge of distributed systems (Spark, Kafka)
• Experience with data warehousing solutions
• Understanding of data modeling techniques
• Knowledge of DevOps practices for data systems
Soft Skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
• Ability to work in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
• Detail-oriented with a focus on data quality and accuracy
• Ability to document work clearly and support knowledge transfer
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally
Nice to Have
• Experience with DBT
• Experience with streaming platforms
• Experience with real-time data processing
• Knowledge of data security and compliance
• Exposure to MLOps
• BI tool integration (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
