Role description
We are seeking a skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Data Engineer with a strong focus on data modelling, mapping, and transformation to join our Big Data Services team within the Hybrid Cloud & Data service line. This role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, implement, and validate data integration and transformation requirements across a range of structured and semi-structured data sources.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Analyse source and target data formats and structures (e.g., databases, XML, JSON, CSV, EDI) to define and document accurate and effective data mappings.
β’ Develop and maintain data mapping specifications, transformation logic, and integration rules based on business and technical requirements.
β’ Work closely with data architects, domain experts, and business analysts to ensure semantic alignment and consistency between systems.
β’ Validate mapping outputs and troubleshoot discrepancies or issues in data transformations.
β’ Create and maintain documentation to support data traceability, governance, and reusability.
β’ Ensure all data processing activities comply with relevant data quality, security, and privacy standards.
Required Skills & Experience
β’ UK National (must be eligible for relevant security clearance).
β’ Proven experience in roles involving data mapping, transformation, or integration (e.g., data analyst, technical business analyst, data engineer).
β’ Strong hands-on expertise with data formats including XML, JSON, CSV, EDI, XLSX.
β’ Ability to interpret complex data structures and translate them into robust mapping and transformation specifications.
β’ Strong attention to detail and ability to manage data-related documentation for governance and compliance.
Nice to Have
β’ Experience with ETL or data integration tools such as Informatica, Talend, Apache Nifi, SSIS, or Boomi.
β’ Familiarity with data mapping documentation methodologies or modelling tools such as Excel-based mapping specs, BPMN, or UML.
β’ Understanding of data architecture principles and metadata management.
