Role description
Job Summary:IKM Network Communications Ltd is a leading provider of network infrastructure services. We’re looking for self-employed Data Cabling Engineers to support our projects in Cardiff and the surrounding areas. You’ll work on different types of sites – including offices, hospitals, and universities – installing and testing both copper and fibre cabling. We need someone reliable who can work independently or as part of a small team. This is a contractor role, not a permanent job. You must be set up as a limited company or sole trader and provide your own transport, tools, PPE, and insurance. Please note: Due to the nature of the sites you will be working on, a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required which IKM will arrange for you. Key Responsibilities Install, terminate, and test structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) Install and splice fibre optic cables Install network cabinets and containment systems (e.g. trunking, conduit) Using test equipment such as the Fluke DSX-5000 to certify installations Ensure all work is completed to high standard and follow health & safety rules Work closely with site supervisors & project managers What You’ll Need Experience in data cabling installation ECS/CSCS card Willingness to complete a DBS check (paid and arranged by IKM) Good knowledge of structured cabling standards and best practices Reliable, polite, with a strong work ethic Ability to work day shifts, evenings, weekends and travel when needed Physically fit, as the role involves lifting (e.g. cable reels) and working in different environments Able to work independently or within a small team Desirable Experience using Fluke DSX-5000 IPAF certification Full, clean driving licence How to Apply: To express interest, please email your CV to: Charlotte Grove, HR & Compliance Manager cgrove@ikm.co.uk.
