Role description
Senior Data Engineer | Contract | £550–£600 per day | Outside IR35
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help modernise how financial and actuarial data is handled. This is a hands-on contract role focused on building scalable data infrastructure that replaces manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes with automated, auditable workflows.
If you enjoy turning messy financial data into clean, trusted pipelines and dashboards that people actually rely on, this one’s for you.
The Mission
You’ll be building robust backend data systems that power automated pipelines and business-facing dashboards for financial services clients. The work is practical, high-impact, and close to real decision-making.
What you’ll be doing
• Designing and implementing cloud data warehouse schemas (BigQuery preferred)
• Building reconciliation logic and data quality frameworks for financial data
• Creating dashboards and visualisations for business stakeholders
• Working with financial instrument identifiers like ISIN and CUSIP
• Mapping and reconciling data across multiple financial systems
What we’re looking for (must-haves)
• 4+ years experience in data engineering or data architecture
• Strong SQL and hands-on experience designing data warehouse schemas
• Proven experience using dbt for data transformation
• Background in asset management or financial markets
• (investment accounting, fund administration, portfolio management)
• Experience building reconciliation logic and data quality checks
• Comfortable with BI tools such as Looker or Looker Studio
Nice to have
• Insurance or reinsurance domain experience
• Exposure to platforms like Clearwater or Aladdin
• Familiarity with regulatory reporting (IFRS 17, BSCR, Solvency II)
• Python for data processing or automation
• Experience with GCP services like Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run
How you work
• Curious and proactive. You dig into problems and ask smart questions
• Reliable and accountable. You deliver and take ownership
• Adaptable. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and learning new domains
• Collaborative. You work well with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders
• Quality-focused. You write clean, tested, maintainable code
Contract details
• £550–£600 per day
• Outside IR35
• 2-stage interview process
• Senior, hands-on role with real ownership
